Suite 4 is a 2nd-floor room with a king bed, full bath with a shower, TV, AC, hairdryer, mini-fridge, microwave, free wifi, cable television, and coffee pot all within the room. All upstairs suites do have a sloped ceiling in at least one part of their rooms. Suite 4's sloped ceilings are above the sofa in the sitting area and again above the king bed. All guests have access to the indoor kitchen, the outdoor kitchen and grill on the back deck, the common-use hot tub, and the bonfire pit. The basis of the Open Hearth Inn is the main house, built in the 1820's it's best known for its historic charm. One of 20 rooms and everyone has plenty of space to stretch outside, gather in the old hearth room and play some board games, stretch out on one of the guest couches and watch movies on the common use 70" tv, make some new friends, and explore the real reason we call it 'Ohana'. All Suites (5 in total) are located in the oldest part of the main building where you will find much of the original history of this circa 1820s home. The front door facing the road is the best entrance for the suites. You'll open the large wooden door and step into a piece of history. Suites 1 (to the left) and 2 (to the right) are located downstairs. Traveling up the stairs you will reach Suite 3 (to the left), Suite 4 (to the right), and Suite 5 (directly back). Staying in the Suites is best if you want to enjoy the oldest part of our centuries-old home. :)
We had a wonderful four night stay at Open Hearth. The room was very comfortable, a great king bed and they did everything to make our stay unique in that they really emphasized the feeling of a family place. The downstairs/lodge had everything you needed. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. They provided lots of things like games, books and comfortable places to sit and relax, even wood and marshmallow for evenings by the outside fire. It is convenient to lots of the things available around the area and National Park.
We had such a great stay here! It’s even more charming than the photos. Less than 30 min from Acadia and a lovely home to return to after a day in the park. The hot tub is in a greenhouse esque area that feels like you’re in Scandinavia and the shared kitchen and laundry room adds to the European friendly feeling (all shared spaces were never busy when we needed them, which was really nice). The rooms are also super comfortable with thoughtful decorations. All the little touches were so appreciated (some staff even made little s’mores kits for people to use). So glad we made the choice to stay in this historic house
Trenton is the town just off of Mount Desert Island which is home to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We are just a mile from the first park picnic area and shortly after the fabled trails of Acadia including Beehive, Precipice, Cadillac Mtn, Beech Mtn, Little Long Pond and all the popular tours like boating, puffins, lobstering and lighthouses! It's an adventurer's paradise and that is exactly why we bought the Open Hearth Inn ;).
Free parking right outside your door! Popular places to eat are the Sugar Bakery and Lunts Lobster shop within about a 1 min walk just across the road.
Trenton is the gateway to Acadia and the park starts just half a mile down the road!
Acadia National Park is just a quick 10 mins down the road and the centre of Bar Harbor a mere 20 mins, and Bar Harbor Airport is just 5 mins down the road from the inn as well. Experience the beauty of Mount Desert Island without the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor while still being fairly close to anything you could possibly need for the best Maine adventure.
