For cyclists looking for a challenge, take on the challenging Hardknott Pass (11 miles), the steepest road in England, or go by car, pausing at Hardknott Roman Fort (13 miles) before descending to Eskdale (18.5 miles) and the prospect of a hike up Scafell Pike (17.5 miles), England's highest mountain.
