Room 21 ~ The Hite Guest Room has a double bed and a bath with a shower (no tub). This room is up the southern staircase on the 2nd floor. The Hite was named for Major Isaac Hite, Jr, who built Belle Grove in 1797 close to the battle site of the Cedar Creek Battle in Middletown, Virginia. Hite was the brother-in-law of James Madison. Thomas Jefferson helped design Belle Grove. Please note: The Wayside Inn 1797 does not have an elevator. Check-in time begins at 3 pm, check-out time is by 11 am. The rooms of the Inn are decorated in 19th-century antiques, giving the warm look of days gone by. Each bedroom is different from the next in furnishings and layout.

Welcome to Middletown, VA, started as a 17th-century Fairfax Grant as settlements sprang up along the Valley Pike.
We have history to offer: the Historic Belle Grove Plantation and Cedar Creek Battlefield and museum. On the more modern side, the town offers Fair Oaks Drive-In Movie Theater, restaurants, and other retail amenity spots. Middletown is 15 minutes from Winchester's walking mall, 20 minutes to Front Royal, 10 minutes to Strasberg and Stephens City—a perfect central location to see many local attractions and townlets.
The Wayside Inn offers off-street parking in our large parking lot on the North side of the Inn and on-street parking directly in front of the Inn, if you have a lot to unload or need the fastest entry to the front desk.
