The host (Carol), is super helpful and always ready to work with anyone interested. Beautiful place to rent out as well.
Our gorgeous, peaceful farm is 2 miles from Tiskilwa, and a beautiful 15 minute drive from Princeton, IL located on I80. Tiskilwa is called the "Gem of the Valley" because it is surrounded by bluffs that lead down to Bureau Creek and the historic Hennepin canal which has over 90 miles of towpath for biking, hiking and fishing.
Our non-profit is focused on inspiring and educating people about regenerative agriculture which we accomplish by hosting overnight visitors, volunteer groups, tours and special events starting at our Education and Retreat Center at the upper part of the farm.
This area (which is where you will stay) has a large multipurpose room, commercial kitchen, outdoor wood fired pizza oven, play ground, large lawn, basketball hoop, resident garden, newly planted orchard, chickens, resident garden, vineyard, and nationally registered Daisy Hill.
A peaceful walk past the small Vineyard and through the woods down Acorn Trail will take you to the Farmstead in a valley (see cover photo) where we have a market garden and livestock operation along the banks of Plow Creek.
We donate thousands of pounds of food to local food banks every year and sell produce through a CSA and Peoria Market Garden. Come meet our sheep, goats, cows, chickens and ducks. Some of us are hoping to have pastured and forest pigs soon ... and maybe a guard Llama or two!
Donations for these and other special projects are appreciated :)
Continue across Plow Creek and you discover our regenerative grazing operation with sheep who are helping restore biodiversity and top soil quality. Hike up the road along Sunrise Ridge to our World Famous Blueberry Hill which visitors have flocked to for decades. The entire ridge may become a silvo-pasture where we rebuild forest health with our animals. (Ask about volunteer opportunities to help!)
Down from Blueberry Hill and on the edge of Tiskilwa is 40 acres of organic corn and soybeans that we hope to slowly develop into an orchard integrated with livestock and other crops.
This is a beautiful, hilly area of Illinois, located in under 1 hour from Peoria, IL, less than 2 hrs from Chicago suburbs, and a few hours from Saint Louis.
Escape the City - The Amtrak arrives in Princeton from Chicago daily.
The farm is a bit outside of town and an easy bike ride or walk. Our farm is an ideal place to stay for mountain bikers, motorcycle riders, and Midwestern Rural Road trippers driving from Chicago to Denver or Minneapolis to New Orleans. Parking is available for up to 20 vehicles. We don't have horses but you may be able to request a farm tour by ATV. Ask your host for options.
