Located in the borough of Wandsworth in South West London, Putney is perhaps most famous as the starting point for the annual Oxford and Cambridge University boat race. But does this leafy suburb have more to offer?
Only 6 miles from central London with a range of transport options, plenty of green outdoor space, stunning riverside views, great schools and a family-friendly vibe.

Putney sits in Zone 2 of the London transport zones and is home to a train station and two underground stations: East Putney and Putney Bridge.
Both underground stations are on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line, terminating at Wimbledon to the south (around 12 minutes from East Putney) and Edgeware Road in the north, with a major interchange for all branches of the District Line at Earl’s Court.
However, with a speedy connection to London Waterloo in 15-20 minutes via Clapham Junction and Vauxhall, Putney train station is generally the more popular option for commuters.
A number of buses also serve Putney, including the 170 to Victoria, the 14 to Montague Street (central London) via Fulham, Kensington and Green Park and the 22 to Oxford Circus via the King’s Road and Knightsbridge.
Putney is well connected road wise, with links to both the South Circular and the A3. The suburb is out of the congestion charge zone; however, London traffic can always be an issue and parking may be challenging in Putney if you don’t have your own parking space. Cyclists can pick up the Cycle Superhighway 8 from nearby Wandsworth via the South Circular and the Quietway 21 to Richmond Park via Putney Heath.
Putney’s close proximity to the river means you can also take the RB6 water taxi, operating between Putney and Blackfriars, or hop on the Thames Clipper with regular services into central London between Putney and Canary Wharf.
