Fall in love with Luquillo!!!
One of the best kept secrets of Puerto Rico has been discovered, and you will experience everything this artsy neighborhood has to offer. The perfect location for your next IG and social media photo shoot!
Extremely peaceful, quiet, and safe. You can walk around the neighborhood and enjoy some of the best cafes, authentic restaurants, and trendy bars. The town square is only a 2-5 min walk away where they have free salsa lessons on particular nights. Explore the neighborhood, and you will also see tons of art and colorful murals on our neighbors' houses.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS ***
La Fonda Restuarant - is by far my favorite authentic rican restaurant in the area if not on the entire island. Their staff and the owners are awesome and extremely friendly. It is my go-to place for good food. I've been addicted to their lobster tacos for years, and they have the best Tri-fongo with Jibaro rice... It's incredible. They are just around the corner and down the street from the house.
Coffee Therapy - which is right next door to La Fonda - is a top-notch cafe. Again, their owners and staff make you feel very much at home here. You will experience here a quality cafe experience that you might not have expected. Simple Foods is my go-to breakfast/brunch spot that was originally a food truck on the beach and have grown to their location. They have the best Gauva stuffed waffles, and the bacaloa bites are fire!
C Note - legendary live jazz bar by the ocean! Again, you wouldn't expect it to be such a vibe, but it is awesome. Enjoy the classy cocktails and cigars.
Boardriders - The most popular beachfront bar in Luquillo that everybody knows. If you want to hang out and enjoy the ocean, this is the place to go.
BEACHES ON BEACHES!!!
You are literally only a few steps from the gorgeous beach known as Costa Azul, known for surfers catching waves, and you can walk in either direction for hours because the beaches are endlessly beautiful. The beaches are so beautiful that it is where Puerto Ricos beloved sea turtles come to lay their nests of eggs! IF you come at the right time of year, you may even see the newborn turtles make their epic journey as they hatch from the sand and into the ocean. Keep an eye out! You can find the sea turtle nests marked off by the local conservationists. That is why our entire coastline has red streetlights at night for the prevention of sea turtles from going in the wrong direction.
If you go walk west a few minutes along on the beach, you will find yourself at Playa Azul beach. The waves are usually a lot calmer if not still. Depending on the day, the water can be so clear that you can see your toes. I often enjoy walking my dog even further for about 30-40 minutes. On that journey, you will pass Playa Bandera, which is always still, and the water is filled with life. It rests on a coral reef, and the beach will have tons of sea shells and crushed coral. Opposite the sand, there is a thick forest different trees you can explore. If you continue further, you will reach the balienaro, which is Luquillos' famous public beach that is one of the most awesome that the island has to offer. The water is so warm and still. You won't be alone there are usually hundreds of people and activities there on the weekends. GO EVEN FURTHER THAN THAT! and you will finally be at Los Kioskos and Luquillo Beach. This is a major tourist attraction where you will find tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. Besides grabbing some authentic puerto rican food like accapurias, arepas, bacalo... Los Kioskos has some of the best mojitos, frozen drinks, and Pina Coladas on the island. You can try a new place every day of your stay at Los Kiskos because there are so many to choose from. It is a great atmosphere and there will be a lot of locals and tourists there during the day! On the beach, you can find jetski rentals and water jetpacks.
Thought i was done? Not a chance! If you walk east along the beach, you will find yourself at La Pared. It is a wall of colorful tiles on the beachfront and is truly a work of art. On the other side of La Pared, you will see a bunch of shipping containers where they are building new Kioskos that should be opening very soon, and i'm really excited to see finished. Explore further down the beach you will see usually see a lot of surfers, and pass that you will find a rock formation that's an awesome spot to climb on and take pictures. If you keep going beyond that and the Sandy Hill towers, there is a small fresh water river mouth coming from the rainforest and emptying into the ocean... and beyond that, you will finally find an endless beach of a nature reserve. I walk my dog there almost daily as it is truly a scene out of national geography. So beautiful, so peaceful, and so private.
Ok enough with all the walking. You can spend your whole day just wandering around this area, and you won't be disappointed.
Feeling lucky? Across from Los Kioskos, the brand new Tropical Casino just opened in October.
Did you forget to get a haircut? I can also highly recommend walking around the corner to Quiroz Barbershop right around the corner from the house. The guys there are great.
Besides all of the above. You are very close to all of the excursions that most people travel from San Juan to get to. El Yunque Rainforest is a must-see for the waterfalls, and it is only a 10-15 min drive away. You can also drive 20-25 minutes to Fajardo where you can find the Bioluminense Bay, one of the only places on earth where you can kayak though the water as it lights up from little creatures in the water at night. Ceiba is also not too far away where you can find a charter or take the ferry to the famous tourist traps of Culebra, Vieques, and Flamenco Beach.
Finally, major shopping needs are conveniently within a few minutes distance from this location. We are right off of the Highway 3 and if you go to the otherside of it you will find a Amigo Supermarket (subsidiary of Walmart), Walgreens, all the major fast food restuarants (McDonald's, Wendys, KFC).
There is also New Image - a local gym that i go to with only $5 day passes in that shopping area, so there is no need to miss your daily workout routine. You can also take a short drive to Walmart, Costco, and HomeDepot. So the area has everything for you need for your shopping convenience.

All you need is within walking distance. I believe that's how you will get the most out of your stay in Luquillo. If you do have a rental car, you will also be very happy with the convenience of this location to some of the best destinations on the island. It usually only takes me a short commute on the highway about 30 minutes to get to San Juan, so you will still be able to enjoy all that San Juan also has to offer. You can at least rest assured that when you will be happy to get back home to Luquillo where it is quite peaceful.
