This is an expansive, unique, homey, well cared for property. Set in beautifully wooded environs, it is extremely private and remote-feeling, yet in close proximity to various Hudson Valley hamlets (15 minutes to Main Street in Cold Spring; 20 minutes to Beacon). Pamela & Guy are wonderful hosts. They were very welcoming (greeted us personally to give us the lay of the land), easy to communicate with, and immediately responsive to the few issues that arose. (Notably, they replaced the large-screen tv in the main house the very next morning after it had spontaneously given up the ghost.) In every respect, it was apparent that the comfort and enjoyment of their guests mattered to them. Our group of six treasured our 11-day sojourn at Dragon's Rest. Thank you, Pamela & Guy! :)

Very secluded but close to grocery and wine and spirit stores. Did not watch TV once. Great property. Highly recommend. Kitchen was darn near professional. We made some spectacular meals.

My family of 4 (with 2 school-aged kids) spent a summer month at Dragon’s Rest. We could not have asked for a better experience from end to end. Pam and Guy have created a home and property that is the perfect respite. It’s really difficult to distill it all, but I’ll give some of the highlights – 1. The homes. We rented out the full compound, which enabled us to have our own work spaces when needed, and also allowed us to have the occasional guests (like grandparents) stay with us comfortably. Each is beautiful, well-stocked with linens and bedding, equipped with washer/dryer and air conditioning, set up with excellent WiFi, and just super comfortable. It was very easy to feel at home in each. For us, one standout was the master suite in the main house, which, surrounded by tall trees in every direction and filled with natural light, felt like being perched in a luxury treehouse. There’s a massive deck off the suite, which has the best views and a fire table. Another standout in the main house is the kitchen and dining area. Although we definitely took advantage of some of the great area restaurants and had our fair share of take out deliveries, we cooked a lot of meals because it was so easy to do. The kitchen has everything one needs to prepare a meal for many. This is not an AirBNB where you are driven nuts by the lack of a vegetable peeler or proper set of sharp knives. (For the record there were four vegetable peelers and seemingly 100 sharp knives – no joke.) Beyond the kitchen area itself, the screened-in dining room has an immense table, tons of seating, a couch, hummingbirds for view if you fill the surrounding feeders, and, facing west, sunsets for view beyond the birds. And off the kitchen and dining room you’ll find a great outdoor cooking set-up – a gas grill, a Big Green Egg (which was fabulous), and a storage console with a very functional tabletop. It’s all perfect. 2. The pool. Within easy view of the main house down a small hill is a heated pool with plenty of seating (for lounging or meals), as well as a pool house that has a fridge, shower, bathroom, and area for storage of floats and pool toys. The pool, like all else on the property, is surrounded by tall trees to just the right degree – shade as needed, but space for sunlight to come in. Some days for us were full pool days, from right after breakfast to sundown. 3. The property. Dragon’s Rest is in the forest or the woods or whatever you want to call it. You access it up a winding mountain road and it’s tucked away in seclusion. It’s like living in a nature preserve. The result is green beauty, birds and butterflies, and quiet. The property is sprawling, so there is an endless amount to explore. For our kids, it was a special experience to be able to play hide-and-seek and chase games on such grounds. For us, we could go out on an actual walk without leaving the property. The property is also well-maintained at all times. The caretaker, Jim, stopped by each week with an assistant to service the pool and handle other regular needs. He is super friendly and responsible, and it was comforting to know Pam and Guy had someone local on standby in case of emergency (we had nothing of that sort, but still, good to have someone on speed dial for that kind of thing). 4. The hosts. Pam and Guy are gracious and generous hosts. They are friendly, incredibly easy to communicate with, responsive and accessible and happy to answer our questions when they arose. One small touch that I think is a good example of what kind of hosts they are – They are members of a CSA at a nearby farm. Before we arrived, Pam sent over the CSA membership and pick-up information for us to have for the month. Each Saturday, we were able to pick up (free to us) a substantial haul of amazing produce. They did not have to do that, but they did, and it’s really nice. This is officially the longest AirBNB review I’ve ever written, and yet I could go on and on. We can’t wait to go back.

Amazing! The Dragon’s rest (as Pam and Guy have named it) is a special and magical place. We spent an entire month and did not want to leave. And we barely even left the property! The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The pool was great during the day, the hiking trails on the property were a plus, and the fire pits were fun for nightly s’mores. My favorite was the upper deck with views of the entire property and Mount Beacon in the distance. Best place to sit and relax and do yoga. The main house is spacious and has anything you could need. The new extension (which houses the main kitchen and screened in dining area) is gorgeous and so thoughtfully done. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with pots and pans and serving bowls and platters. With a 6 burner stove/oven, the Big Green Egg with its pizza stone for amazing charcoal pizzas, the smoker for meats and the regular grill, meals were fun. Guy gave great instructions on how to use the smoker as we are not used to smoking meats being from NYC! The cottage was perfect for a couple and for work, and the teenagers loved staying in the barn. It is the perfect place to stay with extended family as there is room to spread out and have some privacy. Pam and Guy are incredibly responsive and their caretaker, Joe, is an absolute doll!! We were there during the tropical storm and lost power, cable, WiFi and phone service for 5 days. Luckily they have a generator and they made sure it was filled with propane and kept calling the cable and power companies to get updates. (And generously offered to extend our stay because they felt bad). We can’t wait to come for another stay. Highly recommend. It’s really a special place!
