Extraordinarily charming and beautifully rustic converted old convent. Huge amount of room, hot showers and comfortable beds. This is the place for a simple, peaceful holiday. Claudia and Lucia are super hosts, welcoming us with a glass of chilled prosecco after a hot drive from Pisa. The three dogs, Trilly (just bonkers), Cubo (big, hairy and very affectionate) and Pipitto (small, sensible and lovely) really suit the character of the place. Within about an hour to 1.5 hours of everywhere you'd want to visit but take time to walk from the house itself. There are a network of marked CAI paths giving good (if strenuous) circular walks offering spectacular views of the surrounding hills and Lake Trasimeno. Cortona is brilliant for restaurants and being the quintessential medieval hilltop city. Convento di Novole was everything we were hoping for, Claudia and Lucia with their dogs, tomatoes, figs and kindness were the extras that made the holiday.

Claudia is a great host and we enjoyed our stay. The old building is located in the hills outside Montanare with beautiful walks and a scenic environment. We were welcomed by Pipitto, Trilly and Cuba ( three dogs living on the property) every morning and evening. Claudia and Lucia operate sustainable farming practices and this can be a bit confusing for city slickers. It is best to ask as many questions as possible so you can understand how the environment works. Claudia referred us to Michaela who operates horse riding tours/experiences from Cortona. A lovely lady and well worth it. Be sure to ask Claudia for the details. On the whole a good experience.
