With views of the village green from the front facing windows and within a short stroll of the local pub, attractive Coombe Cottage is ideally located in the centre of the pretty village of Sydling St Nicholas. Thatched and built of local brick and flint, Coombe Cottage is a stylish Grade II listed cottage, built in Tudor times and retaining an inglenook fireplace with original bread oven and exposed beams. Ideally located, facing onto the village green with views of the hills, the property boasts a delightful rear garden with garden furniture for al-fresco dining. The attractive accommodation includes an open-plan kitchen with dining area and double doors out to the patio area and pretty garden. There is a bright sitting room with an open fire, comfortable sofas, a television, and window seats. The ground floor of the cottage also has a utility and laundry room along with a cloakroom. On the first floor are two well-appointed bedrooms, a double bedroom facing the village green and a super-king size zip and link bedroom which can be configured as twin 3' single beds on request. Sydling St Nicholas is rated one of the prettiest small villages in Dorset with thatched cottages, chalk streams and a children's play area tucked away off the High Street. There is also an award-winning pub, The Greyhound, just a pleasant two minute stroll away. When staying at delightful Coombe Cottage, you are within easy reach of numerous quaint villages and local attractions, and ideally situated for exploring the wonderful Dorset Downs and beyond, with neighbouring Cerne Abbas just 2.5 miles away, the county town of Dorchester just 8 miles away. Sydling St. Nicholas is a stunningly picturesque and historic village, winding along the little Sydling Water with tiny connecting bridges to the ancient thatched cottages which line the banks. During the summer, the walls are covered with roses and clematis, and birdsong drifts from the gardens.
A few minutes walk away is the well regarded Greyhound Inn, with its fresh food, good wine and real ales.
The village enjoys many stunning walks with a network of well serviced footpaths and bridleways.
A short drive over the hill is the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, home to the famous Cerne Giant, a 180 ft high ancient chalk figure carved into the steep hillside. There are several pubs and a tea shop, and the ancient Cerne Abbey ruins.
A short drive away you will discover the historic county town of Dorchester with its Roman heritage and home to the world-famous author Thomas Hardy. The Dorset Country Museum is well worth a visit, alongside a selection of shops, cafes and many restaurants.
Mapperton Gardens and Minterne Gardens are a short distance away and both worth visiting throughout the seasons.
To the South West is the vibrant market town of Bridport, with its regular local food markets and the fishing harbour of West Bay. This stretch of Jurassic - World Heritage - coastline boasts the stunning beaches of Burton Bradstock, Lyme Regis and Chesil Beach, as well as the Abbotsbury Swannery and Tropical Gardens.
The beautiful town of Sherborne is just over a 20 minute drive away and is home to the stunning Sherborne Abbey, and not one but two castles!
