Escape to this perfect couples hideaway built in the 16th century and you will instantly feel at home in the elegant and cosy cottage. Enter into the hallway leading to either the cosy sitting room featuring a wood burning stove set in Yorkshire stone, filling the room with warmth as you settle in for the evening; or the dining room, still with its original flagstone floor, ornamental range fireplace and exposed beams, creating the perfect space for a romantic dinner for two around the dining table. Leading you through to the rear of the cottage, the delightful traditional style kitchen nestled amongst the eaves and full of character, looks out onto the stunning garden. Before heading upstairs you will find a laundry room, with a washing machine, walk-in shower and WC. Upstairs on the first floor, the double aspect bedroom has a sumptuous super-king size bed, picture postcard views from each window and a bespoke wardrobe; along with a period style en-suite shower room with Edwardian fixtures and fittings. Outside really has to be the icing on the cake, especially if you are lucky enough to stay when the wisteria is in full bloom. Enjoy breakfast at the patio table and chairs on the lawn in the peaceful surroundings with uninterrupted views; or pop open a bottle of wine and get stuck into a good book on a balmy summers evening. You may never want to leave Duxey Cottage, but should you feel you want to explore without the car, there are endless scenic walks and cycle routes nearby, just step out of the cottage door to enjoy the day ahead. A delightful setting on the edge of The Yorkshire Dales National Park, with some lovely walks right from the door. A great base for exploring the area.
A short drive away the thriving market town of Masham has eateries aplenty. Famous for its breweries, Theakstons offers tours and The Black Sheep Brewery has a visitor centre and an extensive bar and popular restaurant. Masham is also host to an annual Steam Rally in July and a famous traditional Sheep Fair in September.
Close by Hackfall Woods is a tranquil wilderness to wander around.
Around a 30 minute drive is the beautiful city of Ripon with a market on a Thursday. The historic Ripon Cathedral has a full calendar of events.
Nearby National Trust Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal offer a peaceful day out.
Heading west into The National Park, Aysgarth Falls has many walks with spectacular scenery, finish off with a cup of Yorkshire Tea at The Mill Race Teashop.
Richmond, around 30 minutes drive North, is a super market town with a good choice of independent shops and places to eat. With its very own castle, Richmond Castle sits proudly looking over the fast flowing River Swale. The Georgian Theatre Royal is the oldest theatre in its original form. The Greenhowards Museum provides a fascinating look into the distinguished regiment. Grab a bite to eat or watch a film at The Station Cinema.
