Wigtown is a magical place, and The Open Book is a unique way to be a part of it. The countryside is gorgeous, and the people are the salt of the earth. I enjoyed all of it- the book shops, the art, the restaurants, the walking trails, and most of all, making connections with locals and other visitors.

The most perfectly expected and unexpected holiday. We had the most incredible, once-in-a-lifetime stay and could not have felt more part of the Wigtown Book Community. The shop was so much fun to run for the week, cozy and just lovely experience. The flat is cozy, though echoing others a bit colder in evenings during the colder months (we were here in April). The movable space heater and warm water bottles were perfect. A good note for anyone planning on visiting the stairs up the flat are steep and narrower and packing smaller might be best! Everyone in town is so great and friendly, and Laurie, Anne and Joyce were wonderful! Can't wait to go back.

Overall, The Open Book is truly an experience of a lifetime and Wigtown is a community like no other. The people are the magic of that wee village and I already miss them. Cannot wait to go back! The apartment above the shop is a super convenient place to stay. However, for us spoiled Americans, we never really got used to the way things worked there. Our main discomforts were the hot water (or lack thereof; we're not used to not having hot water on demand and remembering to turn it on then wait 30 minutes for a shower was interesting) and with no central heat (we stayed there in March when it was cold and rained every day), we were cold all the time. We just couldn't seem to ever get warm, even with the radiators and space heaters. But those things didn't take away from our overall enjoyment of the experience. We LOVED having the Co-Op right across the street and don't even get me started on the scones from Cafe Rendezvous. We ate those every morning and I'm still craving them!
