Set in a peaceful, rural location in the heart of the beautiful Clun Valley situated in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty we are off the beaten track, providing you with peace and tranquillity, yet not too far from some wonderful places to visit.
A great area for sightseeing, walking, cycling, visiting heritage sites, shopping and eating & drinking.
An idyllic location for walkers, cyclists, naturalists and birdwatchers.
Close by is Bury Ditches, an impressive Iron Age hill fort with uninterrupted views in all directions. There are several other impressive ancient hill forts within a short drive away. Across the valley is the enchanting wildlife site of Clunton Coppice confirmed to be the home to pine martens.
Clun (3 miles), is a small quiet and picturesque border town with a long history. It has an ancient packhorse bridge over the river and an impressive ruined Norman castle. It offers limited services but it is a good place to eat, drink and shop for extras. There are lively pubs, a brewery, cafes, and lovely gift shop.
Bishop’s Castle (5 miles), is a larger market town than Clun with an excellent variety of individual traders, galleries / textile / craft / book shops and has excellent real ale pubs and a couple of breweries,
 
Craven Arms (7 miles) is handy for groceries. Close by is Stokesay Castle, the finest and best preserved fortified medieval manor house in England.
Church Stretton (15 miles) is a good starting point for lots of walks on the Long Mynd and the Stretton Hills. it has a wide selection of shops and services. Several good cafes & pubs.
 
Ludlow (15 miles) is well worth a visit being a very pretty old market town on the river Teme.
A planned Norman town dating back to 1086, it has very interesting old buildings and castle. Lots of individual shops and variety of dining options. Ludlow prides itself as being a centre for locally sourced food and the renaissance of ‘local food’.
Shrewsbury (50 mins) is our largest town surrounded by the river Severn.
It has a good mix of high street shops and individual traders with plenty of places to eat and drink.
Ironbridge Gorge (50 mins) is the birth place of the industrial revolution. A world heritage site and well worth a day’s visit.
If you are keen on walking, there are excellent walks from the doorstep. Offa's Dyke, the Long Mynd, the Shropshire Hills and the Stiperstones are all short drives away and each offers a different type of terrain and experience.
If you are keen on cycling, there are numerous quiet lanes for cycling from the doorstep, with cafes & pubs for refuelling. It is also a great area for mountain biking with a variety of forest trails, open moorland & dedicated circuits such as Hopton Woods & Eastridge. We enjoy walking and cycling ourselves and are very pleased to help guests with suggestions.
