I visited Sarah's place with my partner, 8 year old step son and our young dog. Sarah's place is on top off a hill with the most beautiful views. Access to the site at the top was a bit much for my focus estate as there had been alot of rain. But Nick, Sarah's partner, delivered all our belongings to the site in his 4x4. Everything was as described on the website. Sarah greeted us giving us a little tour and how to work the gas heated shower which was a lovely luxury and with the door open you got to appreciate the stunning views whilst in there. Unfortunately we had quite a bit of rain and wind to deal with but there was plenty of shelter if we wanted a break from the weather. This did not spoil the views in any way or our time there. We took our mountain bikes to go to Haldon Forest which was only a 10 min drive away. Nick also gave us access to other fields to bike and walk the dog. He also took us to see a new born calf which was very thoughtful and a lovely experience.
The hosts are lovely, and the view is breathtaking. Both my children loved the surroundings. Also it’s very well equipped regarding cooking utensils. The dome is also rather fun. Please note. To get to the campsite, it is a walk up two large hills, the second of which is very steep. DO NOT attempt to get your car up the first hill unless it’s a four wheel drive. We thought maybe it turned into a road so attempted it until a 1/4 way up when our car cut out and we had to navigate reversing back down. I think more is needed on this in the description. We were quite disappointed in the condition of the bell tent. It was what sold us on staying at the property. As there are holes and quite a bit of damaged to the tent including mould. Which wasn’t ideal as my youngest has asthma. It just wasn’t what I expected, based on the photos. And as a little family getaway, we were rather gutted. Sarah had made it look lovely inside, but just the condition wasn’t up to the mark.
A real wild camping experience with a massive dose of colour, glamour and quirkiness. Spectacular views and privacy to do whatever you want. A tough old trudge up the hill to the site if you haven’t got a 4x4 but Sarah will happily transport you up the hill. Really friendly and helpful hosts.
The site is close to Chudleigh with many amenities including a Coop and Spar, restaurants and pubs, a favourite is the Humming Bird café operated out of a horse box open on Sundays in the rear garden of Kingsley House, Chudleigh, it is really fantastic.
In Teignmouth a firm favourite is 'Halulu', it is open during the day and evening, a beech bar which is open fronted with a bean bag chillout area overlooking Teighmouth beech, there are many bars with live bands on the back beech of Teignmouth. These are 6 miles away.
One mile away there is a river for fishing and a pub for a drink after. Cononteign House which the site views look over has a lake, the tallest waterfall in Devon and a café.
Our own free house Pub is in Hennock approx. a mile away, there is a very wide range of beers, ales & everything else. It was recently in the Cam Beer Guild, it does a great selection of all price meals and many activity nights too.
One mile from the site is an M&S and Garage. It is one junction south of the site on the A38. The junction also has Trago Mills providing loads of family fun. There are many fantastic walks all around including around the Kennock Lakes.
Torquay and Exeter are close for theatres and playhouses, Paignton is also great for fantastic fish.
The site has parking, a car or road bike is essential. There is plenty of parking in the towns around the site.

Sarah was born in Ascot, directly behind the Racecourse in the Cottage Hospital that is still there today. Sarah was brought up in Wiltshire on Salisbury Plain where she kept horses with her along with dogs cats & various other pets and loved the outdoors. Sarah was introduced to Airbnb by her son Jeremy in 2016. It has been a great success so far, we have met some amazing guests.
