Most beautiful place we have ever stayed! Amazing property with incredible views - private but close to everything you need. Our hosts were flexible and responsive. Great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Emmet and Vasiliki were incredible. Amazing communicators, organized, and genuinely nice people. They went above and beyond expectations to help create plans for our trip. They booked us a private chef who came to the home to cook (highly recommend), as well as book restaurants and reservations around the island. The house was absolutely breath taking. One of the most beautiful locations I've been to. It has incredible views, privacy, fruit bearing trees, and a lot of room to explore. It's also in a great area on the island - was initially concerned we would be "in the middle of nowhere", but it has a great town, very accessable to Chania, and we went to Rethimno multiple times which is very close. Must rent a vehicle though. Only thing that would make it better is if we stayed longer. Cheers!
We chose Aloni Villa because we were having a small wedding ceremony and it was all that we hoped it would be..and more! The ceremony was magical because a beautiful space was created just for our occasion. Throughout our stay, we had Vasiliki's support who organized everything we requested (and a few extra touches!) Vasiliki was very responsive, always trying to make sure that everything ran smoothly and we had the best time possible. We fell in love with the views and the landscape, they are truly spectacular as Aloni House stands alone on a small hill with 100% privacy. This house has lots of character and it's so unique! It was super comfortable for 10 people and every couple had their own room and en-suite bathroom, the pool and the large patio around it was beautiful and we spent a lot of time relaxing, enjoying swimming. We also had a fantastic barbecue night that again Vasiliki and Emmet organized for us with a local chef and amazing local food and music. We didn't have much time to explore the island even though Rethymno and Chania are both close. Next time! Vasiliki and Emmet you are one in a million and we are looking forward to seeing you again!
Our stay at Aloni House was the highlight of our tour around Crete and was so peaceful we wish we had stayed a little longer. The villa was amazing, huge and totally private with an excellent pool and views to die for, just watching the sunrise and sunset from the balcony was something I won't forget. We enjoyed hiking into the local village to have lunch at Kali Kardia taverna and meeting the friendly locals but most of our time was spent relaxing by the pool and having barbecues in the outdoor kitchen. We will definitely be thinking about booking a longer stay next year!

Kournas is a pretty traditional mountain village 1km from Aloni House and about 4 km from Lake Kournas. Kournas village is completely unaffected by tourism and takes visitors on a journey back in time, as do many villages in the interior of Crete. The old houses, the village square, the pottery workshop opposite the large kafeneio and Agapinakis's taverna "Kali Kardia", with its wonderful salads and delicious meat, are the first things you will notice in the village of Kournas.
The village of Kournas has 500 inhabitants and lies at an altitude of 200 metres in the foothills of Mount Dafnomadara (1680 m). Between the village and Lake Kournas is a very pretty cave, Kournas Cave, which offers a wonderful view of the lake. The cave is relatively small, only 35 metres deep, but it contains impressive stalactites and stalagmites. If you go in the afternoon, the cave is dark but the little light coming in makes it truly spectacular.
Apart from the feast of St George, a great festival is also held in Kournas on 29 August, in honour of St John the Baptist. There is yet another festival on 16 August, organized by the Kournas Cultural Association.
Kavros is a small, seaside town located 5km away from Aloni House and 3 km east of Georgioupolis. But it is the huge sandy beach that stretches out in front of the main Kavros strip that is the main feature. The sandy beach is perfect for families with umbrellas, sun loungers, showers, and beach bars. The visitors can enjoy the clean sea, the hot sun, the blue sky, as well as try a few water sports.
Kavros village is very well equipped for visitors with plenty of good restaurants, shops, mini markets, pharmacies, tavernas, and bars, as well as car hire offices and a petrol station.
Georgioupolis is a large fishing village approximately 15 minute drive from Aloni House. It is popular with holidaymakers from many countries and is best suited to families and couples. There are plenty of bars to keep the younger ones entertained but no nightclubs. The golden sandy beaches which spread 7km east of the village centre are well equipped with sun loungers, parasols, beach entertainment and tavernas. There is also a lovely small crescent shaped beach called Kalivaki. It is bordered by two rivers, to be found just over the bridge from the heart of the village. The sea here is very shallow and calm, very child friendly with sun loungers, parasols and a couple of beach bars. The lively square is lined with tavernas and some fabulous restaurants, great for sitting and watching the world go by. With plenty of other tavernas to choose from, good shopping, particularly for jewellery, supermarkets, a chemist (and a doctors surgery), a bank and a weekly market, Georgioupolis has everything to offer the holidaymaker looking for plenty to do without forsaking its Cretan charm.
Lake Kournas is just 3km inland from Georgioupolis and is a 10 minute drive from Aloni House. It is a popular tourist destination as it is one of only a few freshwater lakes on the island.
For the majority of the year charter flights fly direct to Crete and come in on a regular basis from many European countries. From the UK there are flights from various cities.
