Friends who have stayed over the years call this the ultimate stress-buster break. There are just two other houses in the hamlet and, since the house is situated on a ridge, there are views for miles in all directions.
Perfect for garden lovers, bird watchers and walkers, this is the place to come for peace and relaxation. We have kestrels and owls nesting every year in the niches around the house, along with hoopoes and redstarts in the barns and a myriad of other birds in the countryside around.
Visits in the area include grottoes at Villars and Tortoirac, the chateau of Jumilhac (plus the famous Lascaux caves and châteaux further afield along the Dordogne River), and beautiful towns such as Brantome, Sarlat and Périgueux.
There are also some lovely places to visit to the north and north east of us.
Jumilhac le Grand is an interesting village with a chateau open to the public, and beyond that is St Yrieix la Perche - a picturesque small town that is good for a wander round its old centre, shops and restaurants. West of St Yrieix is a village called Chalard which was highly recommended to visit by a recent Airbnb guest - so I pass that on... If you are interested in something more active, there is a leisure lake - Rouffiac - on the way to St Yrieix, which has a beach, woodland walks, waterskiing, canoeing etc.
And to the east are the fabulous Arnac Pompadour - home of the national anglo-arabian stud, and Segur le Château, one of 'les plus beaux villages de France'.

Unless you are very keen bicyclists, you will definitely need a car!
