** PLEASE NOTE - this listing is no longer available to book via air bnb. Please search for us on Holidaycottages. The Reading Rooms is stylishly presented yet cosy, a unique village property with period features, original mezzanine, and ample parking. Open plan living for easy socialising, ideal for couples and small families. Inside it is well equipped for modern living and outside you’ll find a decked area with outdoor furniture and beautiful views across the Taw Valley. The Reading Rooms was built in the 1800’s as a place to promote the wellbeing of the local community to improve literacy and the sharing of information. The building has been renovated to provide a place of living, with an open plan living and dining room area, two double bedrooms with views across the river taw and a spacious outdoor area with a bbq and comfortable seating. The second bedroom can be made up as two single beds or one large double. Within the main lounge area there is an original mezzanine providing a quiet reading area with view of Coddon Hill.
Light, airy & spacious conversion of a period property. Although it is located off the main A377, the rear does look onto the A road & fields beyond but traffic noise can be heard day & night from local train but vehicles using the A377 & Village Street itself is busy to include the bus service. Unfortunately not quiet enough for me but understand a building of its age would be restricted to glazing for soundproofing. I did not make use of the outdoor area due to wet & windy weather. Bedroom with small ensuite had comfortable bed. I used main bathroom as more spacious with separate shower & bath tub. 2 parking spaces to the left of the property (kerb not dropped) but definitely handy to have dedicated parking as the residential street is busy. A handy outside tap to hose down muddy boots, paws etc. Local pub is dog friendly & Exe Valley Pizza Co have a mobile pitch on Fri evenings outside church to order ahead for a takeaway pizza within a 5 minute walk. Thanks for our stay
This was our 2nd stay at the Reading Room and we enjoyed every minute. It is so spacious and well equipped with loads of storage space. The place was so clean and there is everything you'd possibly need for a comfortable stay. The decking area is a sun trap with plenty of seating and a wonderful view (including passing trains!). Ant and Becca had left us some fantastic goodies, including prosecco, chocolate biscuits, eggs, milk, tea bags, ground coffee and all the ingredients for a cream tea! The only problem we experienced was having to drag ourselves away at the end of the week. We are already thinking about our 3rd visit. Thanks Ant and Becca.
Highly recommend this listing. Great communication from day 1 right upto until leaving. Light, spacious accommodation which is well laid out and easy to get to anywhere in N. Devon. Well equipped throughout, including the kitchen with thoughtful touches like supply of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, as well as biscuits! Everything you need to cook with, and attention to detail on the little things like dishwater tablets, washing gel and conditioner. Great parking too, with an EV charger on site. Would definitely book again.
The Reading Rooms is spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. We were walking the South West coast path and after a long day’s walking it was lovely to think that we were returning to somewhere comfortable with everything we needed from a relaxing bath or shower to a good night’s sleep in comfortable beds. The Chichester Arms in the village was a real bonus with friendly staff serving good food. We will definitely recommend Reading Rooms to friends and family.
