Camon is a fortified beaux villages de France, set in cathare country at the foothills of the Pyrénées. Surrounded by the Hers river and forests with it’s Xth Abbbaye-Chateau, an ancient Benedictine monastery. 10 minutes from the medieval village of Mirepoix and 40 minutes from Carcassonne. Camon est un beau village fortifié de France situé dans un pays cathare, au pied des Pyrénées avec son Xème Abbaye-Château. À 10 minutes du village médiéval de Mirepoix et à 40 minutes de Carcassonne. "The Old Bakery," nestled in a charming French village, boasts a picturesque setting with front and back squares that invite you to bask in the warm French sun. The 3 bedroom house has beautiful finishes with a fully equipped kitchen: oven, microwave, plus a 2 coffee machines (bean and pod). The property has an outdoor dining area/terrace. Free Wifi is available throughout the property. Guests will be able to enjoy activities in and around Camon, swimming at the Lac Montbel, walking tours and bike tours.

As a seasoned airbnb traveler, I rely heavily on reviews from past guests when booking future stays, and as a result have rarely had a disappointing rental. In this case, Bronwyn's place looked & sounded absolutely extraordinary "on paper" but there were no prior guests to validate the claims. After communicating a bit with Bronwyn I took the leap & booked and am ever so grateful I did! This apartment is everything the pictures convey & more! I've stayed in many spectacular and beautifully decorated spaces and this one tops them all. The blend of old & modern, coziness & spaciousness, elegance & artfulness is unmatched in this home. With three bedrooms & three baths there is plenty of room to spread out, and the charming living room makes a wonderful gathering space. We adored the unique decor which felt very personal yet not overly so. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking and overall the house had everyone one would need for holiday-making. We fell in love with the quaint village of Camon and the surrounding mid-pyrenees region--truly scenic & unspoiled, and not at all overrun with tourists, at least in early June. : ) As hard as it was to leave the apartment and village, we did venture forth on day trips to Mirepoix, Rennes Le Chateau, Montsegur, Rennes Les Bain, and Bugarach, which were all well-worth exploring. We enjoyed an unforgettable evening and dinner at the Abbaye / Chateau next door which is run by Bronwyn's sister. It was the highlight meal of our stay! Communication with Bronwyn was smooth & easy, despite the time differences, and her on-location hosts and helpers ensured that our needs were fully cared for--from settling us in upon arrival to helping us a hire a taxi when it was time to depart. All in all this was a truly spectacular property and stay and I am confident we will be returning... Merci beaucoup & bisous Bronwyn, Tom & Col!

The medieval city of Mirepoix is ten minutes drive. Enjoy its cathedral and covered galleries which date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Each Monday morning there is a large vibrant market selling fresh produce and artisanal pieces.

This area is steeped in history of the Cathars. Visit the Chateau of Montsegur, only 20 minutes drive away. The medieval citadel of Carcassonne is 40 minutes drive. The precipitous chateaux of Peyrepertuse, Queribus and Puilaurens are all possible on a day trip.
