Welcome to Garden Cottage, a charming, tastefully refurbished grade II townhouse on a quiet no through road in the heart of the town. Bridgnorth is a pretty and historic town with a bustling Saturday marketand a crazily leaning castle ruin, it is also the north terminus of the Severn Valley Railway. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside which dotted with interesting great houses, picturesque villages, plenty of museums and places of interest. You will not be short of things to do!
This was the third occasion that we've stayed at Garden Cottage. We left a review after the first time, which is just as applicable now. This is a fantastic place to stay and represents excellent value. It's spacious, comfortable, clean, quiet, well-equipped, and within easy walking distance of several Bridgnorth attractions. Alison and Jonathan are the kindest and most helpful hosts you could ask for. Garden Cottage will continue to be our first choice of accommodation on any future visits to Bridgnorth.
We were delighted with the accomodation. Alison was a brilliant host and we would 100% stay again. Really nice people with a beautiful property in a lovely part of the UK. Would highly highly recommend. Thank you for being so kind on our stay we really appreciate it - thank you so much
Beautiful old house with lots of character, carefully looked after and all the facilities you could ask for. Set on a quiet, historic street yet only a stone's throw from centre of town. Lovely sunny little private garden out the back with seating. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming and had provided a multitude of helpful little extras including milk, bread, wine and even a chocolate cake, which meant we didn't need to rush straight out to the shops after a long journey. We all agreed it was a house we would love to live in and would definitely return to if visiting Bridgnorth again!
Everything about this house is as described and there are lots of little extra touches too. The host could not have been more helpful. Bridgnorth is a great place to visit and the house location perfect in a quiet street a couple of minutes from the centre and with parking. We are looking forward to visiting again.
Bridgnorth is divided into High Town and Low Town. The cottage is up on the cliff where there is a bustling Saturday street market and a profusion of shops, restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance . Just an easy stroll away are the crazily leaning castle ruins and gardens and the High Street which is dominated by the stilted Town Hall. The Severn, longest river in the land runs through Low Town and can be reached by The Cliff Railway, if the seven sets of steps or dramatically steep Cartway don't appeal!
The surrounding area has magnificent country houses and parks, the splendid walking country of the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge and a plethora of picturesque Shropshire villages.
How about sampling our local attractions? The north terminus of the Severn Valley Railway is in Low Town; with 16 miles of track following the river to Bewdly and the Engine Shed museum at Highley it is a great day out. A visit to the historic working Daniel’s Mill or Rays Farm with its owls, wildlife and woodland walks could offer respite from everyday life.
A few miles away you will find the Aircraft and Cold War Museum at RAF Cosford or the beautiful ruins of Wenlock Priory, which lie in the heart of the small market town of Much Wenlock or the Industrial World Heritage site at nearby Ironbridge with the world's first bridge made of iron and the 12 museums celebrating the Industrial Revolution.
You won't be short of something to do!
How to find us…
From the North & Telford (A442)
As you approach the town you will arrive at a roundabout (A454 Wolverhampton road junction) with the Bandon Arms on the right. Go straight on over the roundabout but take the right hand lane.
Turn first right after theTesco garage into the one-way system and carry straight on over the bridge…
From the South & Kidderminster (A442)
At Bridgnorth, carry straight on over A442/A458 roundabout and take 3rd left into
St John Street, after the Job Centre, and carry straight on over the bridge…
…Then:
Follow the road round to the left past the caves on your right, and take the right fork (New Road) up the side of the cliff opposite Lasyard House. Continue up the hill, passing The Old Castle Inn on the left (West Castle Street). Turn right just after the White Lion pub, at the cream building housing “Legends” Cantonese restaurant, into East Castle Street. East Castle Street is a cul-de-sac with no through traffic.
We are at the top end of the street on the right hand side just a little before the green-domed church St Mary.
