Beautiful San Blas experience, overwater cabin was the way to go! Helps to get the sea breeze at night and you can’t beat the view.

We ended up staying at a cabin on another island as this one we originally booked was having issues with the water supply. It was a bit of a hassle sorting out our payment options as they wanted us to cancel the original reservation to pay in full through their website. We ended up paying the additional cost separately rather than canceling our Airbnb reservation. The overall experience was nice. Luckily we knew what to expect prior to our stay (as others have mentioned, this is not a luxurious experience). Connecting with nature and interacting with the Guna Yala residents were a couple of highlights for us. We fell asleep to the sound of ocean waves and ate some of the best seafood we’ve ever had. Some cons would be the overcrowding; do not expect it to be a private experience, it was tough to find a space on the beach that we didn’t have to share with others. The communication could also have been better. We didn’t appreciate the last minute notice that our original accommodation wouldn’t be available. It left us rushing to reserve another cabin in time for the early 5am pickup.

Know where you are going before booking. This is not a luxury resort but exactly what we expected! We went because we wanted to be somewhere remote and disconnected. The cabin was great with a beautiful view right over the water. Laying in the hammock on the porch reading was the ultimate relaxation. The food provided was rally good, but definitely stock up on water and beer on your way to the islands. Also bring so snacks if you want something in between meals. Definitely would go again, just would bring more sunscreen 😎

I stayed 3 nights on Wailidup in one of the simple wooden cabinas with 2 beds over the water. With water and electricity not being in full supply as with many of the islands, don’t expect luxury. Solar panels on each cabina provided plenty of light inside. My phone stopped charging around 6 a.m. – not an issue for me just something to be aware of. The deck over the water is lovely and perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view. The island has a lovely main beach that is well cared for but beyond that and the cabinas the small island is sadly riddled with garbage. I also sailed for 3 nights on a sailboat before Waily and saw other islands that had problems with trash. It seems more efforts can be made all throughout Guna Yala by the locals and any tour operators/guides profiting from tourism to help this situation. Travelers/tourists can also help by simply bringing an extra bag and packing out whatever possible, especially what is brought in or used to help preserve the beauty of this place. The sink and shower water also goes back into the sea so best to bring environmentally safe products like reef safe shampoo and soap. The island does have bugs or mosquitos or something and I was bit a lot so bring bug spray (environmentally safe). The beds have mosquito netting, more like sheer fabric sewn together, and could use an upgrade especially for the price of the cabinas. I highly recommend doing day tours to other islands/places if you have time; seeing the natural pools was a major highlight! Paola was great with communication during booking and helping to arrange transportation and the tour. The people on the island are friendly; it helps the more Spanish you have to communicate. Meals are taken at the restaurant and a great way to meet other travelers. Expect simple meals, mostly with fish or chicken and rice or patacone options. Come with your bug spray game on. Beer, coke, water, etc. are not included and reasonably priced. Overall had a wonderful, relaxing visit and would love to come back.

The cabins are rustic and the setting is lovely. This is a great place for a private retreat and escape from a busy world.
