We had a wonderful time on Osea Island. Parts of it remain unspoilt, views are great, trails are lovely and what is left of the village/original buildings quaint and magical... Great to be able to walk trails, pick up free bikes and swim in both the swimming pool and the tidal pool. However, the village now appears to be being replaced with very mediocre modern buildings with no original features that really jar with the beautiful old Fishermans cottages. This is a huge shame. Also when wandering the island, you are as likely to come across a rubbish dump as a piece of hidden beauty. The properties are sadly not being maintained and now seem to be beyond repair in many cases. The housekeeping is also not of a professional standard. While you would expect there to little traffic movement on a tidal island, sadly there is almost constant back and forth of a number of large staff vehicles for small items such as drinking water and logs (golf carts would be more suitable). Host is responsive beforehand and when there. We enjoyed our stay, but feel the images and previous reviews are perhaps a little more rose tinted than realistic. The island has huge potential, but only if there is some serious investment in those beautiful old cottages. It is worth noting that there are also additional yurts to the properties which means facilities get busy and there is added traffic movements across the island to service them.
Osea island is the most beautiful secluded holiday destination. We picked a wonderful weekend and the weather was glorious! The staff were super helpful and were able to provide a BBQ when asked. Driving over the causeway was extremely bumpy, much to the pleasure our 3 year old in the back! We didn’t leave the island (we took all supplies with us, but this did require some fridge jenga to get it all in) we did see an Ocado van making his way over - I worry for any eggs in the van! The cottage could so with some tlc but is full of character with a lovely outdoor space which we ate in every day. We took some of the free bikes and explored the entire island and it’s wonderful views. There’s a nice little sandy beach area where we spent a day and were able to cycle back to the house in 5 minutes for supplies. The pool is currently on a rota basis so we booked our hour slot but did still seem to be sharing it with others, it just relies on the cooperation from guests. I’d advise anyone going to take a fly swatter or some spray, the heat this weekend bought them all to the party! Overall I’d highly recommend Osea and will definitely be back.
