We had a great stay at Eugenia and Mike's place. Great location for hiking and swimming at nearby beaches. Eugenia and Mike were great hosts, giving us great advice on things to do in the area, providing homemade desserts and welcoming us to their home.
This little bnb is gem. Only a few minutes' drive from Sougia, up into the hills. It ia completely quiet and natural. You can do a selection of walks by going down to the war memorial and taking the bus at 07.05 and going to Agia Irini to walk down the Irini gorge (breakfast at the head of the gorge), this three-hour walk is shady pleasant with some scrambly bits. Or you can stay on the bus and get off by the track to the wildlife centre / lookout and walk south along the ridge to Koustogerako. This will take three and a half to four hours with amazing views to the south and west. You descend into Koustogerako and then down into Livadas. There are many other longer and more adventurous walks.. Or you can just sit and watch birds, or go down into Sougia for the beach and cafes. Eugenia and Mihalis will look after you whatever.
Eugenia and mihalis went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, we arrived on a dark and stormy night and it was my birthday, they had stayed up late to greet us with big smiles and a surprise birthday cake that mihalis made, they are both such warm hosts, genuinely lovley people that are proud of the wonderful mountain world they have made and so happy to share that experience with others.
Livadas is a little mountain village north of Sougia, in the Sougia gorge. There are no bus routes so you will need a car or taxi. You can also hike downwards to Sougia.
You will not see the rest of the houses of the village, and you will feel like “you own” the place. There are a natural spring and a picturesque church nearby. The spring was used in the past from the whole village for drinking water as well as for cleaning purposes.
The best way to visit this part of Crete is to rent a car since there only a few buses and taxis. It is always better to rent a car by calling directly to a car rental office rather using airline offers.
Going to Sougia:
You can go to Sougia from Livadas by a hike root (approx. 3km), your car (approx. 6km), by taxi or we, can drop you by with our car. It will take you less than ten minutes to go to Sougia by car.

We are a couple from Greece, enjoying our pension. We love nature, cooking with fresh ingredients and hospitality. "Anna's house" is the place that Mihalis was born. We spend most of our time through the year at this place, and we enjoy hosting travelers and make them feel like locals!
