A few of our favorite places
RRESTAURANTS
You truly can’t go wrong with all the places to eat in PHILA…here are a few favorites close by…
(*BYOB: bring your own bottle) Wine & Spirit store 16th & Locust- 4 blocks away
• Bistro La Baia: Italian, BYOB, Corner of 17th & Lombard. Love the staff and very simple atmosphere. Very reasonably priced.
• Pumpkin: BYOB 17th & South, 3 blocks away. Reservations hard to get so book on line early
• Entrée: BYOB 16th & South, 3 blocks away. Reservations hard to get so book on line early
• PARC: directly across from Rittenhouse Square. French. Sit outside if you can score a table.
• El Vez: 13th St. Nice walk…. Best Mexican you will find in Phila.
• Harp & Crown: great happy hour (4-7pm)
• Nori Sushi: 17th and South. Limited in door seating but great take-out
• Dandelion. English Pub (sit upstairs). 18th & Sansom
• Cheesesteaks: if you are dying for a famous PHILA Cheesesteak, there are multiple options. Reading Terminal Market is great choice. Jim’s on South St (always crowded but worth it). (They talk about Pat’s and Geno’s but in my opinion, both are over-rated)!
• *Reading Terminal Market…a must!! There is nothing they do not have. Worth just walking around this Phila staple. DiNic’s --their ‘Roast Pork with broccoli rob’ has won national sandwich of the year awards)
• Rowhome Coffee: they serve breakfast sandwiches on a PHIL Pretzel! 25th & Pine. Short walk (long line)!
Fun establishments music/sports watching:
• Bob & Barbara’s: dive bar but iconic! Go Friday night for jazz music
• Black Sheep: 17th and Spruce. 2 blocks away…Great bar to watch sports. Very good food (for a bar)
HISTORIC SITES, Museums, PARKS & WALKING TRAILS
• Schuylkill River Trail: Great walking/bike trail that you can access at the bottom of Pine St (out my front door, turn right, head towards the river/28th St. Enter trail just past the dog park.
• Rittenhouse Square: Every Saturday morning there is a farmer market at Rittenhouse Square
• City Hall and Love Park- beautiful area to walk around
• Art Museum: 2 mils from my home (via the Schuylkill River trail). Take a run up the steps like Rocky. You can continue the trail past the Art Museum up towards boathouse row- another beautiful Philadelphia iconic sight.
• Washington Square-historic Park and next to Independence Hall. Stop into the Independence Beer Garden
• Liberty Bell & Independence Mall: Short uber ride or a nice long walk OR rent electric bikes
• Penns Landing overlooks the water and includes: Spruce Street Harbor Park, Morgan’s Pier, Mosholu Ship/Restaurant, Cherry St Pier.
• MUSEUMS: Mutter, Barnes, Franklin Institute, Art Museum (add’l suggestions listed below in Olde City tour)
Electric Bikes
• You can rent directly across the street from my house (near parking lot). Be careful to read instructions…you need to redock the bikes every 30 min (that may have changed) but the point is to use the bikes to get from point A to point B. Docking stations all over the city. Once you dock, you can just pick another bike when you are ready to move. Good option to get to OLD CITY area…

PARKING
You have 4 OPTIONS-
1. Street parking with 2 hr. minimum signs: some streets there are no meters so you get 2 free hrs (Eg my block of Pine St). If there is a meter you need to either download app or use credit card. You can add time from your phone. Follow days/time…eg: 8am-6:30pm means you can park there after 6:30pm until the following morning at 8am without using meter
2. Street parking with parking pass: Allows you to ignore 2 hr minimum. I have day passes available in top drawer under TV in living room. ($7per day). Fill out with license plate and scratch off month/day- hang on your rearview mirror facing out.
o You can park anywhere its says ‘2 hr parking except parking permit Zone 1’ (see sign below). Parking pass gives you one day/ 24 hrs.
o These are for ‘one’ day, so if you park at 4pm on Friday, technically that pass expires at midnight and you need to place a 2nd pass on Saturday. Parking authority usually doesn’t start checking till after 8:00 am, so you have some time in the morning to place your new pass. You cannot place more than 1 day pass at a time in your car. I’ve had guests change out the new pass at 8pm for the next day. Parking authority works 8am to 8pm.
o You can park in any area that says ZONE 1 (pic below). Zone 1 is pretty big…but it you drive to other areas of Phila (Eg: Olde city or Fairmount), you will see a different zone # so you cannot use these passes.

3. Lot across the street (corner 17th & Pine). Paid parking, rate varies bases on time in/out
4. Parking Garage: Download Park Whiz app…you can put in my zip code and find least expensive garage in the area. Use this option if you plan on leaving your car for your entire stay. You can’t pull in/out with this option.
*if you are here more than 4 nights, I can get you a long term street pass for $15. Need to know ahead of time and also will need your license plate.
