Great place to spend a week. Peaceful and homely - as described. Susan was a great host - responsive and flexible. Would happily recommend a stay here and will look to visit again
My partner and I spent a wonderful week working away from Susan and Tom's lovely cottage. The place is just like in the pictures: homely, spacious yet cosy, peaceful and with breathtaking surroundings. The location is secluded, and overlooking the sea. Every day we woke up to beautiful views of sea and rainbows. Susan and Tom were great at communicating and really helpful. The home (and kitchen in particular) was well equipped and we found everything we needed to cook. As mentioned in the description a car really helps - public transport is infrequent and doesn't stop very close. Within a 10-15 minute drive however we found everything we needed - a nice pub / restaurant (the Magnus Bay hotel), a very well stocked shop (the local community shop in Hillswick) and great spots for lunchtime walks. I'd definitely stay again - thanks so much Susan and Tom for having us!
This is one of the best and most unique places I have stayed with Airbnb. Firstly the location is jaw droppingly beautiful. it is an easy and lovely journey to anywhere on Mainland. it is beautifully warm and cosy and it has everything you might need and more. it even kept us warm ans dry in some of the windiest weather I've ever experienced. The front porch has potential to be a stunning shelter but mostly you can't see out of the windows which I thoight was a real shame. . I really can't complain though as this really is everything it looks like and more. Thank you for a wonderful stay. we really enjoyed our stay on Mainland thanks to your lovely place.
We very much enjoyed our stay; the description of both location and property was spot on and didn’t disappoint. The interior was warm, cosy and full of character and the view to die for. The standard of cleanliness however could have been much better; this let the property down for us. Just an observation to benefit future guests: no freezer on the property. Noted that for a house that can sleep 9, there were only 4 wine glasses, 1 frying pan and a lack of some basic kitchen items including serving dishes and side plates. As there were only 4 of us, this wasn’t a problem but might be challenging for a larger group
This is a very old Shetland croft house where we had a delightful stay. Of course its authenticity means that there are some uneven floors, a couple of low doorways and fairly steep stairs. However it was well equipped and spacious (the original croft has been much extended). The location is truly stunning and the good and traffic-free roads means that it is easy to get around the island. Altogether a true Shetland experience.

I'm Susan and I'm originally from Glasgow, but have lived in Shetland for years with my husband Tom and 3 children, now grown up and on the mainland. I work here as the local GP, and am always 'busy' but enjoy footering around in the extensive gardens at the manse.
