The hosts were nice. They wanted to meet us and welcome us in their guest house the first day. They also told us about places we could go since it was our first time in Nova Scotia. The guest house also had board games I had forgotten about.

We chose this spot as a place to go out and explore Cape Breton and were pleasantly surprised by the numerous things to do within a short distance. Our hosts were so helpful in recommending things for our family to do. We could have used more time to explore the town, or just stay put and relax.

This is a special place due to Pat and John’s hospitality and the beauty of the property. We were a group of five - 2 teens and 3 adults- and it was very comfortable for us. The trout pond provided an opportunity for our son to catch our dinner (!), which was a treat. This place is not too far from a few nice hikes and beaches and, conveniently, a grocery. Highly recommend.

We were VERY lucky and got to stay here during our families East Coast trip. John was extremely responsive to any inquiries we had throughout our stay and Pat greeted us upon arrival, gave us a tour of the guesthouse, and provided a thorough overview of the area including where to eat with a picky teenager. From the moment we arrived Pat and John were very welcoming and we felt genuinely cared about their guests. Our main attraction to the area was the Cabot Trail, this was the perfect location. Other activities included going to the beach at Inverness with John explaining exactly where to go and even where to park, and as recommended by Pat we also went to the Mabou Farmers Market, which was great! Our time spent here was one of the highlights of our trip. The guest house is lovely and has everything you need, and you can tell Pat and John take pride in their property and the overall area itself. Before we even got home our family had already started talking about a return trip :)

The Old Miller property was mostly as described and Pat was a generous, friendly & responsive host. The house is in a good location with lots of places and sites to see fairly close by on the western side of Cape Breton. The house is ok-equipped, but we found some things could use restoration and were not in great working order such as inoperable locks on two doors, an inoperable ceiling fan, and dangerously dull kitchen knives. One burner on the stove did not work, although after we told Pat she literally had someone come to look at the next day. Beds were all comfortable, WIFI worked very well, dishwasher was excellent (dish soap provided), bathroom water pressure was great, and showers worked well. Guests should know to bring toiletries as almost nothing was provided (such as no shampoo). Guests must also bring anything they need to cook (oil, spices, etc). Coffee, some tea, and bottled water was provided but no condiments.
