Great location, despite a little traffic noise. Lovely little private garden terrace. Clear instructions for an easy check in. Very clean. Comfortable bed, wonderful large towels! We appreciated the toiletries provided, also ample dishwasher tablets (which isn’t always the case elsewhere). We also appreciated the provision of tea bags, coffee sachets, milk sachets and sugar sachets, although there were no additional little luxuries in the kitchen. Families should note that there isn’t a microwave. Lovely to have a nice cafe and small farm shop at hand. For evening dining we can recommend the Triton Inn which is a very short walk away. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay in a clean, comfortable historic property. The guided tour of Sledmere house is a must - worth the small extra cost. Would recommend East Lodge Gate House.

The Lodge at Sledmere is a perfect place to stay and we would love to visit again. The grounds of Sledmere House are exceptional and were perfect for our young children to explore. The lodge itself is comfortable and compact and suited our family well, and a travel cot and high chair were kindly provided. The location of the lodge is also good for travel around North Yorkshire and the East Riding.

This unusual house is a very interesting place to stay. Not only is it in an amazing setting, beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable but also within easy driving distance of many beautiful beaches, towns and places to visit. And, of course, right on the doorstep of Sledmere House. I’m almost scared to praise it as much as it deserves as I wish to stay again and would like it to be a well kept secret. Michaela and all the staff at Sledmere are lovely people and help to make this a holiday destination to remember.

Immaculately presented lodge in a lovely location with a great host. The bath was the best ever, so comfortable and stayed warm for ages. We were also very impressed with Sledmere, particularly the walled gardens - will have to return to see everything in bloom. The guinea fowl were delightful too! Only minor issue for us is that the gravel in the garden and on the path to the door hurt our dogs' paws so we had to wait until public opening hours to walk them on the grass.

we really enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend the accommodationand location. the large Bath in our room was a treat. the fire was perfect with plenty of wood left for us. the cottage was managed in the same style and with the same quality as a National Trust cottage. you can be assured of friendly help should you need it.
