Detached + beautifully situated @ edge of village - garden views over fields + unspoilt Wolds scenery. Walks from door. Kitchen - French windows to patio. Period features, open fires, TV, fast wifi (10mbps+), spacious bedrooms: master double (others twin-double). Powered + heated summerhouse. Two patios; south-facing garden with sun all day + evening. Large drive space for multiple vehicles. Excellent walks from the door and cycle ways. Sledmere stately home is about 6 minutes drive. The detached cottage is beautifully situated at the edge of Fimber village over-looking fields with walks from the door and lovely far-reaching views from the garden and most windows - towards unspoilt Wolds scenery on all sides. The kitchen has French windows leading to the patio. It has various period features since a large part of the cottage dates from 1760. There are open fires (and logs are provided) - they are not really necessary (due to double glazing and insulation), but cosy at some times of year. The dining room and lounge can seat seven. It has good TV reception, and the wifi is fast (10mbps+). There are four bedrooms, of which three are double rooms; all the four bedrooms have two beds that can be pushed together (one – in master bedroom - is a double bed; in the other 3 the second bed can be pulled out for use). Bathroom and loo in one wing of cottage with walk in shower, downstairs loo and washbasin next to the other wing. The summerhouse offers an extra room, and has power and heating (heater recently renovated in Jan 2024). It also has lovely far-reaching views, is great for sun-sets, and provides an excellent sitting area when it’s too cold to be in the garden. Log fire in dining room and wood burner in living room – logs are stacked near fires, and some kindling; firelighters and matches are in large wooden cupboard outside living room near stairs. For the wood burner please use kindling first to get it going and then add wood (coal not suitable). Lawns, sitting areas, drive There are a range of lawns in the back garden, with a pond, two patios, and also a number of sitting areas. There are uninterrupted, far-reaching views across the fields from the garden, and cottage, with lovely sky views. From the upper patio there are also views of the Church and towards the wolds. The very sunny garden is an important feature – it gets the sun all day and evening; the patio outside the kitchen is a sun-trap, even in Autumn, and you can then enjoy the sun-set (with a glass of wine) from the upper patio or Summerhouse. There are a large range of mature shrubs and trees, and a wide range of perennials for round the year interest. In season there are green-gages, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, herbs (you’re welcome to pick) The garden is next to a field with far-reaching views and spectacular sunsets; a range of wildlife can frequently be seen – including hares, owls, voles, sometimes deers. There is a large drive which can take multiple vehicles. On clear nights a wonderful star display can be enjoyed
A gorgeous cottage with plenty of room for our family getaway. The kitchen was lovely and well equipped, bedrooms cosy and clean and the garden was simply glorious!
Our family enjoyed our Easter stay at Helen's place. A well equipped and spacious property. Easy to find. Clear instructions. The garden is very pretty with several seating areas and has lovely views. Just 4 miles from Sledmere House which, as well as the stately home, has a cafe and a farm shop. There is a another cafe around a mile away in the direction of Sledmere. The Wolds railway is just a little further on. The village has no ameneties but it is a good base for touring the area.
Warm, welcoming and homely. Highly recommend! Stayed here with my wife, daughter and the father-in-law, we were all so well catered for. The facilities were brilliant and the house immaculately kept.
6 minutes drive from Sledmere country house with farmshop, events, playground and tours.
Historic village, gorgeous Wold scenery, walk down a quiet road past Sykes church to Burdale surrounded by open fields. Great walks from Thixendale a short cycle ride away down the extremely quiet and sheltered Burdale lane (which has wonderful views of dale-grazing and pasture scenery with great sky views, mornings and sunsets), or a 5min drive.
Easy access directly off the B1251.
If coming from Malton in the North: take the B1248 and turn off at the roundabout just before the old Yorkshire Wolds railway.
If coming from Wetwang or Stamford Bridge on the East/West: take the A166 and turn off at Fridaythorpe.
If coming from the A164 in the South: turn onto the A166 at Driffield and then turn off at Fridaythorpe.
