Grand Bassin is on the ‘must see’ list of Mauritian attractions. This sacred lake also called Ganga Talao and represents the mighty Ganges river of India. You'll find it tucked away in the mountains of the South West surrounded by colourful Hindu temples and gods. On the road leading up to the lake you will see giant statues of the Hindu deities Mangal Mahadev Shiva and Lord Durga. These were made by the Indian sculptor Shri Matu Ram Verma who is famous for his giant statues. At 33 m high Mangal Madadev is the 3rd tallest statue of Shiva in the world.

As one of the most important religious sites in Mauritius for the Hindus, Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, is a great place to visit when exploring South Mauritius. As you get closer, you’ll definitely notice the 33-meter statue of Lord Shiva. Spend some time wandering around the crater lake and don’t forget to visit the temple as well. Grand Bassin is free to visit and make sure to dress conservatively since it’s a religious site.

A sacred place for Hindus where is consecrated one of the most tallest Shiva statues in the Indian ocean."shiva" another word for Nothingness - just pure form of energy. and the sacred lake where you can sooth plenty of positive energy
