VOIDOKILIA (Βοϊδοκοιλιά) Beach, Bay, Curve or Cove is not only one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, but maybe also in the Mediterranean Sea. The sheltered bay is referred to in Homer's Odyssey and archaeologists believe it was used by King Nestor as a port in ancient times.

Voidokoilia beach is probably the most famous beach in Messinia and one of the most beautiful in all of Greece! Its name comes from Voufras, which means "where the oxen live". It is also mentioned in an ancient inscription as Vouvota - Voidokoilia. The most obvious name, of course, may also come from the great curvature formed by the bay and the fact that it looks like an ox's belly. Voidokoilia is located next to the Gialova Lagoon, at a distance of 10 kilometers from Pylos. This natural bay is of unique beauty: fine white sand stretches over a large area, from end to end of the beach. Its waters are calm, blue-green, and exotic. To your left, as you see the sea, you see Paleokastro at the base of which is Nestor's cave.
