The tower is inspired by the Giralda, the medieval tower of the cathedral of Seville. When completed it became the tallest building in Florida at 315 feet, holding the record until 1928 when the Dade County Courthouse was built. At one time, the pool was the largest pool in the world and among the many attractions was swimming instructor (and later Tarzan actor) Johnny Weissmuller. It served as a hospital during World War II and as a VA Hospital and campus of the University of Miami medical school until 1968.

A historic landmark known for its Sunday Brunch with once the largest pool in the world . It served as a hospital during World War II and later a VA Hospital before becoming a luxury hotel.

National Historic Landmark with classic Italian, Moorish, and Spanish Architectural influences. Opened in 1926. A personal favorite of mine to go exploring.

Stately Miami Historic Hotel. Fine dining evening restaurant is pricey . . . I recommend a courtyard lunch instead! Great food, reasonable price, amazing atmosphere! Take in the historic Lobby & Pool area while on-site. Great spot for lunch after a morning at Fairchild Botanic Gardens . . . then off to a driving tour through nearby Gables Estates to see some of Miami's best (and most expensive) historic real estate.
