雅典卫城是雅典城和希腊的象征，也是西方文化最重要的地方之一。 卫城的希腊名字“Acropolis”在希腊语里的意思是“高处的城市”，自石器时代起，它一直以其海拔156米高的岩石悬崖俯瞰着雅典，具有重要的政治和宗教地位。 在三千多年前的迈锡尼王时期，它是一座旨在保护宫殿的堡垒，荷马（Homer）在《伊利亚特（Iliad）》和《奥德赛（Odyssey）》里曾有描述，它的周围环绕着一道长760米、高10米的围墙。 但在公元前480年波斯人入侵雅典期间，防御工事、历史古迹和神庙均遭到破坏。 独裁者庇西特拉图（Pisistrapo）下令进行了初步的重建工作，包括建造最早的山门（Propylaia）和今天帕特农神殿所处位置的一座古老神庙；而雅典卫城重现辉煌，则主要归功于伯里克利（Pericles）。这位开明的政治家在雅典黄金时期统治这个城市，今天仍然可以看到的很多古希腊建筑都是在他的时代所建：帕特农神庙（Parthenon），是古代最著名的神庙；厄瑞克忒翁神庙（Erechtheion），拥有著名女像柱（Caryatids）长廊；精美的雅典娜胜利女神庙（Temple of Athena Nike）以及新山门（Propylaia），这是伯里克利重建的神圣区域入口柱廊。 几个世纪以来，随着希腊文明的衰落，雅典卫城的面貌改变了。城内的数百个雕像被带走，壮观的建筑物被损坏或毁坏。 罗马人攫取了无数艺术品，后来基督教徒摧毁了神庙，或将它们改造成教堂，并洗劫了它们里面的宝藏。 后来，在1456年，雅典被土耳其人征服，帕特农神庙被改造成一座清真寺，而厄瑞克忒翁神庙则成为总督的后宫。后来，帕特农神庙甚至成为一座火药库，并于1687年在威尼斯炮弹中被炸毁。最后，英格兰大使埃尔金（Elgin）勋爵拆除了许多雕像，并将它们带到伦敦，今天它们是大英博物馆的骄傲。

How can you visit Athens without paying a visit to the landmark monument and symbol of Western civilization? The magnificent Acropolis monuments of Athens! Tips Book your entrance tickets in advance to skip the lines at etickets. tap.gr If you have participants under 25 years old (discounted), you will have to wait to confirm their age, so make sure you bring IDs or passports. You can also buy a combo ticket at this link that includes all the monuments. Book a tour with a licensed tour guide. One of my Airbnb experiences is the Acropolis monuments with a licensed tour guide. Having a licensed guide will make your visit to these antiquities worthwhile, considering there are so many details, tips, and knowledge you can enrich from this visit. Choose to enter from the South Slopes entrance so you will have the opportunity to visit the Ancient Theatre on the south slopes. Better photo opportunity through this entrance, less crowded and better views. Wear comfortable shoe hats, and have a water bottle (the only food and drink permitted). Up to Acropolis, there is no shade. I prefer to visit before 10:00 am and after 5:30 pm. Acropolis opening times. Winter: December to February 8:00 to 15:00 March to April 8:00 to 17:00 Summer May to August 8:00 to 20:00 September 8:00 to 19:30 October 8:00 to 18:30 November 8:00 to 17:30 Strollers, drinks, or food (unless it is water) are not allowed in the monument area. Acropolis subway station is close to the south slopes entrance (exit to Makrigianni street). A visit to the nearby Acropolis Museum is another excellent idea to complete the visit to Acropolis, enjoy some indoor AC and grab a snack at the museum's restaurant. Excellent souvenir shop too. Again try to book your entrance tickets in advance through the Acropolis museum website (different entrance ticket). A vaccination certificate is mandatory for your visit to the Acropolis museum.
