Pedereneira is a fishermen's place since the 12th century, Nazaré itself is relatively recent, in the 17th century the sea still touched the counterforts of the Pederneira Hill. With the sea going back, the fishermen descended to lower altitude areas,znamely Nazare Village. The Pederneira Lookout is in a forestry area, and has amazing views over the coast, the whole of Nazaré, including Sitio, and the Leiria Forest.

Pederneira During the 15th and 16th centuries, it was an active naval shipyard, where ships and caravels left for the Discoveries. In this place you can visit the Igreja Matriz de N. Sra. das Areias, from the 16th century and the Igreja Misericórdia, in Manueline style built in the 17th century.
