Tintern Abbey is a 10 minute drive from the annex. The abbey is situated on the banks of the river Wye, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and excellent walks. The Anchor pub next door is also well worth a visit!

A Gothic masterpiece of the Middle Ages, put into ruin during the Reformation, but still very impressive in its setting on the bank of the river Wye. Approached from the Monmouth side by a drive through the picturesque Wye Valley and beyond to the castled town of Chepstow.

Tintern Abbey (and walks) was founded on 9 May 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It is situated adjacent to the village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, on the Welsh bank of the River Wye, which at this location forms the border between Monmouthshire in Wales and Gloucestershire in England. It was the first Cistercian foundation in Wales, and only the second in Britain (after Waverley Abbey). Tintern Abbey and Devils Pulpit is a 8.5 kilometer loop trail located near Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching.
