The New River Trail State Park is a wonderful asset to our communities. Formally a railroad line for Norfolk-Southern, the trail is a mostly flat 57 mile trail. It's great for hiking, jogging, and biking! The trail follows along side Chestnut Creek and eventually the New River. There are many access points to the trail. Our family's favorite area of the trail is from the Gambetta access to Fries Junction...simply stunning scenery!

The beauty of the mountains at its best !!! whether by a hike or riding a bike .. Bike rentals available here in Galax ..Fantastic views of Chestnut Creek and The New River ,,If you do not experience anything else while here in Galax..This should be the top of your list !!
