The Villa Formerly Villa Tentrem was an old Javanese village teakwood house. We added different artistic stone walls to correspond to the needs of a modern traveler. You will always discover something new and surprising looking around at the unique design.
The villa was a great place for me and my family to wind down. Pak Tuck was very helpful and was always one call away. Unlike many Airbnb's I've been to, the kitchen actually had pots, pans and utensils in it so that helped a lot. We didn't need to 'invent' some creative way to cook eggs in the morning. We were also able to bring our dogs here and we love it.
The Southern mountains „Gunung Kidul“, as the area is called – stretches along the south coast of Java. In former times vast teak wood plantations covered the area, which had been deforested. Nowadays a deforestation program succeeded and in the rainy season the landscape is lush and green. The Southern mountains are a vast karst region. The rain sinks into caves in the underground and emerges often again at the coast.
The southern coast is rough and wild, but exotic with innumerable beautiful white sandy beaches with bizarre rock formations. Some of these beaches provide fresh fish and other sea products supplied by local fisherman.
Unfortunately swimming is only possible at very few spots. But you often find “bathtubs” – white sandy holes secluded by coral rocks where you can plunge in and enjoy the water.
The inhabitants are often farmers, who mainly cultivate maniok, peanuts and maize during the rainy season. In the dry season the area looks quite barren. Tourism is developing slowly. Therefore the village people gain an extra income especially during the long dry season.
During your walks through the fields a smile is a nice gesture and you will be immediately welcomed. Please also respect the people’s clothing regulations. It’s fine to wear a swimsuit at the beach, but cover up while you’re walking in the area.
UNESCO Geopark
Gunung Kidul Regency and nearby Imogiri Regency (Central Jawa Province) are being promoted by the Indonesian government to be a UNESCO Geopark, due to their unique and scenic karst landscape.
Transport: We organize a car for you with or without guide to pick you up from the airport or the station/city of Yogyakarta. If you bring your own car or motorcyle we provide a safe place at the villas area.
Upon your request we can take you to interesting places in the surroundings. Or we can set up a 2 or 3 days visiting program in the gunung Kidul area which covers all the
the different “jewels” of the South Java coast. For example: Visit an environmental centre, go for a walk through the nearby villages or watch the farmers working on the fields. On your way back to Yogya make a stopover e.g. caving, visit of a water fall or visit the Royal cemetery in Imogiri. But Yogyakarta still has much to offer. Famous Buddhist and Hindu temples, the old city of Yogyakarta, the Sultan’s palace, the water castle and walks in the old city are very picturesque. The city is also famous for its culinary specialties. We guarantee you won’t be bored.
