Kemadang, Tanjungsari, Gunung Kidul Regency, · 整套民居 · 3室4床2.0卫 · 可住8人 · JiwaLaut Antique Javanese Eco Ocean Villa "JOGLO"
We wish you to feel connected with ocean, nature, animals, people, energies, & yourself as a whole interconnected system. Our concepts Slow life: Simplify Local Organic Wellbeing - Learning Inspired Fun Experiences authentic We are what we eat: food choice impact physical & mental health, life energy but local environment & people. We focus not only on beaches but traditional farmers villages inland. We advise to stay at least 3-4 nights to get the experience & join villagers activities. Our purpose is to offer an alternative traditional experience to the standard modern concrete Villas. It is our own family house we offer for rent from time to time. The villa is a soulful antique Javanese wooden Joglo, which has a rich history with vintage interior furnitures and thoughtful touches from Javanese artisans. Scientific studies suggest that sleeping in a wooden house give a boost of wellness & have health benefits. Plus it is located within our renatured sanctuary hill consisting of a permaculture based garden forest (half hectare). Getting the energy of the trees like a forest bathing with the Ion negative of the ocean wind to rebalance your energy. In the morning; wake up with the meditative sound of the ocean waves & the chanting birds and in the evening with the frogs chant also during their season. This old wooden tek house was rebuilt with the innovative of the green awarded architect "Yu Sing" and his Akanoma Studio crew (Bandung). Our both aim was to blend traditional Javanese village (desa) design with new architecture technics. Our architect was awarded in 2015 and 2016 as best sustainable construction design and green leadership, with our concept of learning center, by the Swiss "Holcim Foundation" and "Futurearc" - BCI, Singapore. The philosophy behind it is called Ecopuncture. It is the equivalent of acupuncture in architecture, enhancing the energy flow in the surrounding nature through the building. The electricity in Indonesia is made from burning coal, which is harmful for people & environment, but at our place we generate it from solar panels & wind mill. Our water is also chlorine free as we have our own well & collect rain water. We collect rain water into tanks located next to the house. We treat through a natural system your gray water into the frog and fish pound. Your toilet output will be recycled to produce biogaz and fertiliser for our garden surrounding the house. The house is ideal for 4 to 6 people and can host up to 8 persons. Babies up to 2 years old free, without matras. It has 3 bedrooms, one living room and 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom faces garden & partial ocean view with king size handmade carving bed. The other two bedrooms have garden view and queen size wooden beds with comfortable matras. All have mosquito nets. On top of that you can enjoy the spacious living room, its day bed, the sofa and armchair, with a very long gallery style balcony with two hammocks. You will have two large private connected to the house open sky bathrooms to enjoy meditating showers and toilet time. Both are sitting toilets. We provide towels, toilet paper and organic soap. We don't have private kitchen in this house, but we have the village women having a kitchen and dining, under the house, to cook for us & guests where we can share stories. Definition of Eco hospitality is to able guests enjoy experiencing a real nature - human stay with a positive impact, its simplicity and authenticity with just enough comfort needed.
We stayed here 3 nights with our family and it was a good choice. These are stylish huts traditionally decorated that fits to the jungle place. The hosts were very helpful and communicative. We recommend this place and if go there next time we'd love to stay again
We had a most wonderful experience meeting the host and staying in a comfortable house . The food was delicious and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing . I like to come back again another time in the future .
Stayed here as group of 6 adults and 1 child. Really enjoyed staying here as far as adhering with the traditional living concept. Most notable is on the walking distance to secluded and kinda exclusive beach (watu kodok) and beach with lagoon which has canoeing activity (drini).
We loved our stay at Jiwa Laut. The accommodation was atmospheric and the team cooked us delicious meals. We had everything we needed and everyone was very friendly. Short walk to the beach which was lovely. We swam and sat on shaded mats drinking from local stalls which we enjoyed.
1) The white sandy beach of Watu Kodok (one of the cleanest), in front of us, 2-3 minutes walking. It has one of the best sunrise and sunset (2 hills tops look out surrounding and some other nearby on a short hike like Kosakora, Drini).
The beaches face Indian Ocean and its waves. Swimming more suitable for experience swimmers. Fun for body boarding (we have 2 for free).
But we can show you the location of our swimming "lagoon" away from the crowd where you can swim and snorkel safely when the tide is right (mid).
There are small ocean pool-holes at another beach nearby at low tide, to have a jacuzzi like experience.
2) Our place is perfect for yoga and meditation. We can help you on meditation with different practices, from the Java spiritual melting-pot traditions.
3) Our garden is surrounded by trees, some are old high vibration trees. We can introduce you to forest therapy and tree hugging, as well as walking barefoot therapy.
3) Exclusive from our community, they can bring you for a local life "Javanese" experience, at our traditional farmer village community, 15 minutes driving inland. It is a non touristic community based immersion.
You can trek to the village through forest and farming fields (about 2 hours) or we can drive you there with local farmer pick up.
They can offer you the following activities:
- The most adventurous you will be able to descend a local adventurous karstic cave « Jurassic world » hole with safe climbing ropes.
- Explore the underground horizontal meditation cave Grengseng (with stalagmite/stalactite). It was Javanese last Hindu King Bramijaya V, meditating cave. We can even guide you for a deep meditation experience there.
- There is an ecoprint & recycle plastic products workshop where you can try tracing leaves clothes or bags and shop their products.
- After that you will enjoy a local village dinner at our cook home and sharing their life.
- The experience can end with a gamelan evening workshop with the local village band where you will all play together traditional Javanese partition inspired from Ramayana and Mahabharata mythology.
4) We can bring you also to traditional local ceremonies ans festivals if there are any at the time you are here.
Some are supra natural experience of trance dance like Jatilan or Rasulan festival (cleansing), full moon, dark moon or just traditions like wedding, circumcision and any party, concert music gamelan etc...which are all part of traditional Javanese life, if there are any at the time of your stay.
5) Many trekking possibilities around the hills, beaches and bays of Gunung Kidul. Walking trails around rice fields and forest behind the hill. The farmers and fishermen may show you how they farm/fish in a still traditional way.
6) We can book traditional massage (acupressure) from our local healers.
7) You can spot pilot whales around July to October just cruising behind the breaking waves at our beach to feed.
8) Surfing. You can try surfing at the most suitable beach for that, Wediombo beach, part of a Geopark, with astonishing bay view, just an hour deriving from our place. They rent surf boards and can show you.
9) We are central located to the more touristic Gunungkidul beaches like:
- Drini beach with traditional fishermen and fresh sea foods restaurants, kayak rental (within walking distance)
- Sanglen and its natural jacuzzi pool at low tide and beautiful sunrise spot next to our beach (within walking distance)
- Ngobaran sacred cliff and beach (the equivalent of Bali Uluwatu in Java) with Hindu, Islam, Kejawan and Kejawen temples with possibility to attend some ceremony if any, and on the way the holy Gua Santa Maria (Cave) where she appeared to local people (about half our scooter distance).
- Watu Nene & Seruni (hidden quite beaches accessible by scooter on gravel road & then a 10 minutes trek down cliff).
- Wediombo, part of a Geopark, where you can surf.
- Timang beach, where you can experience the local cable car over the ocean to a rock.
- Water fall of Sri Gethuk, place for cleansing, with the biggest river of our regency located between Yogyakarta & us inland about 1 hour.
10) We can organise your trip to explore the nearby most famous and touristic Jomblang cave and Kalisuci tube caving river adventure.
11) We can bring you to Prambanan temple & Borobudur stupa & mandala monument (it is not a temple). If you want avoid staying in the busy city to get there. It will take about 1 hour more than if you stay in touristic area of Yogyakarta.
12) On the way from/to Yogyakarta to our place there is a wooden batik village where you can experience the art of batik on mask or any wooden piece and can shop they artefacts for cheaper than city market.
Together with the above Nglanggeran ancient volcano with cocoa plantation and chocolate factory.
We offer community base transportation program from and to any places around Yogyakarta region. They can offer transportation for discovering the area as well.
Our aim is not to get any profit but to empower local villagers through drivers jobs, and get a fare share earning for their family.
We also use some of the money to plant trees and any plants around our property as green gas compensation.
It is the smoothest fastest and hassle free way to get here and around here.
We provide a mini MPV Suzuki APV (max 7 guests) and scooter rental.
Our location can also be accessed by rental car and scooters even if kind of "hidden in the bush". You just have to drive a short distance on the gravel Jl Watu Kodok road.
Taxi from Yogyakarta can bring you here as well.
There is also a cheaper slower option, public transportation. There are "Damri" shuttle bus going from International airport to city center Malioboro street and then to Baron beach. The beach is located 3 km from our place.
There are scooters taxi who may bring you here.
The distance from our place to city center Yogyakarta is about 50km. The average time is about 1,5 to 2 hours, depending on the traffic jam.
Type "Jiwa Laut Bukit Kelor" or "Pantai Watu Kodok" on maps to get here. We advise to use offline maps and apps as the 3/4G signal is not strong in our area.
