If I could give Denise 10 stars I would. Her place is exactly as seen in the photos. The tent was spacious but cozy, the bed was extremely comfortable, and there was enough blankets to ensure we didn’t get cold overnight. Check-in was so easy and meeting Denise was the highlight. She is so friendly, gave clear instructions, and had wonderful recommendations for us. The land where the camp sits is absolutely gorgeous and there’s a great walking trail on the property. The pavilion is well done, had all the amenities described, and was an ideal place to have breakfast in the mornings! Overall, the camp exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay here again.
Denise’s camp is a hidden gem almost at the end of McCarthy Road. We rented a vehicle on Turo that allowed us to drive ourselves and we met up with a Denise to get a tour of the camp. It is clear she has taken many measures to create a thoughtful and luxurious camping experience. We especially appreciated her solar powered charging stations and her camp stove which allowed us to heat up some basic food and drinks. Her place is very close to some famous foodie destinations in McCarthy, but we appreciated her setup because we didn’t want to eat out every single meal. The Pavilion community area that she has is also a fun place to hang out with cornhole, a campfire area, and some space to play games and eat. We highly recommend this place to other guests and would definitely go back!
Absolutely loved our stay at Denise’s! Such a warm welcome and super comfortable glamping spot. We brought our bikes to go to and from town and it worked out great. Was nice to be close enough to enjoy all the fun McCarthy has to offer, while still having a serene spot to hang out and wake to enjoy the views while drinking our morning coffee. Denise even had a white board system so we could communicate our needs (as we didn’t have cell service). Would definitely stay again!
If you are looking for an adventure with the most peaceful surroundings, this is the stay for you. I have not stopped thinking about this beautiful spot since I left days ago. The mountains all around are absolutely breathtaking, and being nearby the quirky town of McCarthy was awesome. Denise is a great host and she has truly thought of everything to make guests experiences are simple and comfortable as possible. She's not kidding when she says the beds and linens are absolutely luxurious. This place is a must stay if you find yourself in need of some peace and serenity. Can't wait to visit again.
The perfect stay for those looking to explore McCarthy/Kennicott. I can't recommend it enough. The site is gorgeous on its own as well and very well maintained. The amenities are also convenient, but still the perfect balance of being in the outdoors while having the ability to take a (HEATED!!!) shower. Also the camp kitchen area is super neat and has everything you need. Denise is also an amazing host and helped us out when the infamous McCarthy Road took out on of our tires. She has lots of great suggestions and is so friendly.

I came to McCarthy, Alaska for the first time in 1993 and was completely mesmerized. Unlike the footbridge we have today, back then, a hand-pulled tram was how we crossed the Kennicott River. I accepted a job at the McCarthy Lodge and at the end of the summer, bought Swift Creek by making a small down payment with the tips I had saved. Over the years, my time has been shared between McCarthy in the summers and Homer in the winters. During that time, I co-founded McCarthy's Roadside Potatohead (aka The Potato) and Swift Creek Cabins were built. Although the Potato was first sold in 2004, it's still in the "family" and going strong! McCarthy Cabins is host to three cabins on three separate properties; Swift Creek, Bluff Cabin, and Meadow Cabin. The McCarthy Cabins summer team includes myself and my two furry family members; Mouse the Pug, and Penny Peanut a little terrier mix. We hope you will join us this summer – we look forward to meeting you!
