Steve and Caroline were wonderful, friendly, and kind hosts who tried their best to help us and make us comfortable during our stay, and were very communicative. The cottage is perfect - it had everything we needed including a record player and wood-burning stove! The Rayburn range was also fun to use. There are many walks nearby, and the property is calm, private, peaceful and quiet, with a diversity of bird life. We hope to come back again sometime soon, thanks!
This is a beautiful cottage in a tranquil location. We saw a red squirrel and green woodpeckers in the garden, which was lovely. Steve and Caroline are friendly, warm and kind and were lovely hosts. It’s a great location for exploring both the lakes and Pennines and we also went on the train over the ribblesdale viaduct. The highlight was the Appleby gypsy horse fair - such a wonderful privilege to see these beautiful horses so lovingly cared for, and to see through just a small window into the culture of this persecuted minority, who have so much to teach the settled community, whoever they are.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay here and Steve and Caroline were brilliant hosts. Ghyll House was in the ideal area for us, we walked to and from Appleby that took less than an hour but it was also only a short drive away. Steve and Caroline provided us with cereals, yoghurts, fruit, bread, jams etc for our breakfast which we were very pleased with. Overall we would definitely stay here again if we return to Appleby! :)
A cottage full of character, with a cosy sitting room and a wood burning stove. Very welcoming hosts who gave my wife some medical attention! A perfect place to stay for Lake District or Pennines
You can walk from the house. Lovely country side in the outstanding Eden valley. Appleby 3 miles walk by river. The local caravan park has a shop and restaurant and is 10 minutes walk. Local pubs by car and easy access to Ullswater or the Yorkshire dales by car.
You will need a car. Or bring a bike. We can also pick you up from the railway station in Appleby and you can rent bikes from us for the duration of your stay.
自我介绍
I live in the lovely Eden valley with my wife Caroline. I am a personal and corporate executive coach and water colour artist. We enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. We have three daughters; one who is a teacher in Madrid, one is a design engineer in Liverpool and the youngest is doing a Masters degree in Denmark. I like simple and comfortable quiet accommodation and enjoy meeting people and talking with them.
