Welcome to Rosemoor Lodge. Our property is located on the edge of Bodmin Moor, in the beautiful village of Altarnun, at the heart of Cornwall and all the major tourist attractions within the county and are easily accessible as are those within Devon, should you wish to cross the border! The lodge was designed to have as little impact on the environment as possible, with low energy lighting, heating and hot water 24 hours a day, provided by Ground Source heat pumps and solar top up on the roof. We built Rosemoor House in 1998 and Rosemoor Lodge came as a slow and steady extension in 2006. The Lodge itself is completely self-sufficient and heats itself through an underground source heat pump. Throughout the day it gets its electric from the solar panels on the roof. The bedroom and en-suite of the Lodge is submerged under our upper garden, which creates an enigmatic feel to the building from the outside. There is Wifi access within the property now. We welcome well behaved and fully trained dogs and they must be at least 2 years old, have a crate to sleep in and cannot be left unattended at any time.
Good location with lots of things to do with your dog. Lots of great places to eat nearby and the place was very spacious and comfortable. The hosts were also very friendly and welcoming. The slight downside was that we’d preferred if the living room had the option of closing blinds perhaps. It can feel a little awkward at night with the large windows.
Beautiful house, in a peaceful area with very kind and thoughtful hosts. The property is well located within close distance of many areas of interest, from the coast to the moors, would definitely recommend 😊.
Lovely place to stay - really spacious accommodation, just as it looks in the photos. Lovely touches (like a bottle of prosecco in the fridge on arrival!) and good communication from the host. Only think that would have improved it would be some curtains in the living area, so it feels more private.
The Area-
Altarnun previously known as ‘Altarnon' is a popular tourist destination. The church itself dates back to the Norman era and is commonly known as the Cathedral of the Moor, definitely one to explore. Doc Martin filmed a wedding episode in the village in 2014, and if you're a Doc Martin fan they film it just a 20-minute drive up the road in Port Isaac, a quaint little fishing village with plenty of character.
Although we're on the Moor and deep in the majestic countryside we're only a 5 minute drive from the A30 which is the main access point in Cornwall linking us very quickly to get deeper into Cornwall or to head towards Devon. We are 10-20 minutes away from Camelford, Launceston, Callington and Bodmin which gives you plenty of variety in historical Cornish towns. A car is necessary in Cornwall although there is a bus service from Altarnun village into Launceston town if you fancy mixing with some of the locals.
