The house is extremely light and bright, and the lovely open-plan kitchen/dining room is the heart of the house. Tastefully decorated, it's the ideal place to come back to after a busy day exploring the Norfolk coast. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen, before retiring to the spacious sitting room with great views and a cosy log burner, comfy sofas, and television.
We stayed recently for a family get together and had a great time. The property was perfect. Very spacious, clean and welcoming. Everyone felt like they had their own space and the communal living space was generous, with lots of room for big dinner and space to play games etc. the house had everything we needed and even had children’s plates/bowls/cups etc. the owners also left us some local goodies and treats for the fur babies (again. Thank you so much) We traveled with the family pets too who had a great time running round the spacious garden. The views are incredible and location was perfect, being right by the beach. Unfortunately the good old British summer let us down on the weather front, but that didn’t matter, we had nice evenings in and drove to a number of farm shops and local towns. Thank you again for a lovely stay.
Lovely home with great views of the lighthouse. Peaceful and relaxing. Within easy driving distance of most places and good walking directly from the property.
We had a brilliant stay at The Dairy House. The location was absolutely brilliant - we could walk to the beach every day and the views from the windows were stunning. Even though the location was quiet and peaceful it was easy to access shops and other amenities only a short drive away. The house itself was spacious and there was plenty of room for everyone, yet it still felt cosy and welcoming. It was great having the downstairs bathroom and utility space, especially when returning from the beach! All of the facilities were great - the kitchen had everything we needed. Overall we had a brilliant time and would recommend this place to anyone looking for beautiful place to stay. Thank you so much!
Great trip to The Dairy house in Happisburgh for a family Christmas holiday. Great location minutes from the beach, fab play area down the road and lighthouse views are exceptional. Ideal for dogs! House could benefit from more dining chairs to accommodate everyone and a new dishwasher. Some confusion about check in/arrival info via email which we didn’t get but sorted quickly and efficiently. Overall and great stay and would recommend it/go back. Thank you!
The house was far better than pictures and much bigger! We were two families of 5, host was really helpful with organising a cot, kitchen had everything you need and more! Conservatory filled with toys for little ones, garden is really big and completely secure for dogs (we had x4 with us), we had 3 cars and there was ample space! Very quiet road, everything was really clean, would definitely recommend we had a great time!!
Happisburgh is a historic village on the north-east coast of Norfolk. Pronounced “Haze-bruh”, and spelt ‘Hapesburg' in the Domesday Book, the name means ‘Haep's Town'. Despite much publicity about Happisburgh and coastal erosion, the village has an exciting long term future.
The historic village of Happisburgh with a secluded sandy beach, sits on the Deep History Coast and has a fascinating history showing the earliest signs of humans in Britain. The constantly changing coastline, its 18th century lighthouse and 15th century church makes Happisburgh a fascinating place to explore.
Happisburgh is home to the oldest working light in the county and the only independently operated lighthouse in the UK. Saved as a working light by the local community, it is maintained and operated entirely by voluntary contributions. The famous red and white striped lighthouse was built in 1790 and offers wonderful views of the coast and countryside. In the summer, it is open to visitors on occasional Sundays.
The secluded, sandy beach is dog friendly and great for days out. From the beach, you can walk as far as Sea Palling taking in wonderful views and there are miles of coastal paths to walk and footpaths in the surrounding area. Happisburgh is known for its coastal erosion which is constantly changing the landscape of the coastline. This erosion has lead to some discoveries that date back millions of years.
Flint tools and early fossilised human footprints were discovered dating back at least 850,000 years which signified the oldest evidence of humans in Northern Europe and the oldest human footprints outside of Africa! These finds, as well as the mammoth skeleton in West Runton, have earned the Norfolk coastline the name, the Deep History Coast. Happisburgh is on the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail and has its own Discovery Point.
To explore beyond the village, turn right up the beach and Hemsby will give you all that a traditional English Seaside resort has to offer, with amusements, cafes, ice cream shops, RNLI gift shop, and a decent pub. Turn left to experience a more tranquil nature walk, and you'll find Horsey seal colony and the fabulous café at Waxham Barn. Further along the coast, you'll reach Sea Palling and its Blue Flag beach and if you follow your nose even further you'll get to Happisburgh and its iconic lighthouse. Sometimes the only other mammals you'll come across are the coastline's famous Grey Seals. Do remember to look up for a glimpse of Norfolk's wonderful birdlife, such as kestrels, skylarks, and little terns.
The bustling market town of Norwich is about 30 minutes away with its picturesque lanes, buzzy market, cultural displays and dining treats. And of course there are our two famous Cathedrals and Norwich Castle, which was built by the Normans as a Palace over 900 years ago. It is now a museum and art gallery where children can discover more about East Anglia's own Queen Boudicca. The Museum of Norwich is packed full of exhibitions and interactive displays, or why not enjoy taking the hop-on-hop-off bus to see the city.
Not too far from Winterton is Great Yarmouth – a lively resort with an endless list of entertainment and places to eat – not forgetting the Pleasure Beach with its infamous Snail ride, a nine acre amusement park, the Time and Tide Museum and the brilliant Hippodrome Circus – one of the last purpose built circus buildings in the UK. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens is a must if you love animals, and Pettitts Animal Adventure Park has something to do with children of all ages.
Also not far away is Lowestoft, a fabulous seaside town with much entertainment including the wonderful Somerleyton Hall and Gardens, the East Anglia Transport Museum, Africa Alive, Sparrow's Nest and Gardens, the Marina Theatre and various other museums. There's also an arcade on Claremont Pier with over 35 rides. If you fancy something a bit more energetic, why not test your nerves at Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park. Set in 50 acres, the theme park has rides up to 50mph as well as water based ones. Smaller children will enjoy the Flying Elephant ride and Big Train – there are also sea lion and parrot shows.
Wroxham – the heart of the broads, is the perfect place for boat tours, day boat hire, shopping, or to visit Wroxham Barns – a family adventure park with rides, animals, shopping, dining, a maize maze, and so much more – it's also where our office is based so why not call in and say hi!
