Lovely place to stay with beautiful views and everything we needed to feel comfortable despite being a small space. We were in the area for Ten Tors and the location was perfect for getting to Okehampton camp. Corrine was friendly and welcoming and little touches of milk, butter, cheese, orange juice in the fridge, dressing gowns in the bathroom were great.
The location is incredible! The walks around there are so lush. Views from the hut are gorgeous. We highly recommend walking to Black-A-Tor!
We booked the shepherds hut as a VERY last minute getaway (literally the night before we arrived!) and Corrine was beyond accommodating! Very friendly on arrival with a helpful information pack & maps in the hut itself. We loved the special touches like the fresh juice/milk/cheese/butter and the cosy robes & blankets for the cooler evenings. We visited in wet & windy weather but the hut was warm and the changing weather made for a spectacular scenery! We were lucky to find a break in the weather to visit the gorge & waterfall nearby (highly recommended!) Overall, a beautiful stay, just what we needed & we loved being able to switch off from the world and enjoy the peace & tranquility at the hut. We will 100% be back & promise to give a little more notice next time! Thanks so much again Corrine for a wonderful stay and for sharing your piece of heaven with us. Happy Easter and we hope you had a wonderful day celebrating your anniversary! X
The Shepherd's Hut is in such a beautiful location and Corrine made it extra special with the homely touches she has put inside. Especially loved the milk, butter, cheese and chutney in the fridge!
The Shepherds Hut was just perfect, fantastic view across Dartmoor, quiet setting and great location for seeing the area. Corrine was really helpful with all the instructions and leaving the light on for us and heater on so it was lovely to walk into as we arrived so late. Had everything you needed and can't recommend enough. There is also a lovely pub in Lydford, had a wonderful meal and will definitely go back again for a summer stay to take advantage of visiting the gorge. Excellent stay all round. Thank you Corrine! x
The secluded Cloves Farm is nestled on the fringe of Lydford village, which is home to the historic Saxon Lydford Castle. Just a short walk away is the National Trust’s Lydford Gorge noted for its mystical woodlands, the Whitelady Waterfall and delicious cream teas.
A range of idyllic moorland hikes, breathtaking country walks and popular bike rides are right on your doorstep including The Granite Way cycle path, Widgery Cross and the coast to coast cycle trail, part of the national cycle network passing right through the village.
There are two well renowned Inns close by, The Castle Inn in Lydford Village (a scenic walk from our Shepherd’s Hut but you may need a torch on your return!) which is a quintessential 16th Century Inn known for its hearty pub food made from local produce and The Dartmoor Inn which is just a 5 minute drive away and offers award winning country dining.
There is also a well stocked local farm shop selling award winning pasties, fresh meat and vegetables nearby.
Popular market towns, Tavistock and Okehampton are just a 15 minute drive away with regular bus routes to both.
