Knotts View is located in the centre of Dockray village, in the quieter rural Matterdale valley, high above Ullswater. The local pub is just across the road with it's large garden. Footpaths head off in all directions, offering both high and low level walking. This is also a great place for wildlife/bird watching. Or you can just put your feet up:) There is a delightful private garden and summer house, secure storage for bikes in the stone shed, and free gated parking. Recently renovated, the cottage offers two double bedrooms, (one will split to two singles if needed - please advise when booking), two generous ensuite shower rooms, a smart new kitchen with separate dining area, and comfy fire side snug for putting your feet up in the evenings. There is a TV screen with DVD player, or you can connect your laptop to stream your favourite programmes from the internet (HDMI cable supplied). Sorry, no live TV channels. There is also a CD/Bluetooth music player. Heating is by wood burner and ceramic electric radiators - these are new, fully programmable and centrally controlled from the wifi tablet supplied for guests. A private path leads down to a secret garden area, with summer house and seating. From there another gate takes you straight out onto a footpath to explore or take the pooch for a stroll.

Enjoyed our stay immensely. Lovely cottage, clean, cosy yet spacious for 4 people. Lovely to have our own bathrooms. Chris was friendly and helpful. Excellent, peaceful location with walks from the door. Particularly lovely to walk to Aira Force Waterfall from the cottage. Visited the pub opposite twice which was very useful. Definitely hope to visit again!

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Knotts View. This cottage is a beautiful find, with so much to offer. The garden is lovely, surrounded by beautiful landscape and made bathroom trips for our dog an absolute joy. The walks from the footpath next to garden are stunning - even in the downpour of rain! The fireplace was a lovely comfort to retreat to after our long walks and the bed extremely comfortable. The cottage has everything you need and could ask for! We would highly recommend a stay at Knotts View. Thank you Chris and Ruth!

Me and my girls had a lovely, peaceful stay at the cottage. The cottage itself has been done out really well but Chris and Ruth. The living room is super cosy with the log burner and rugs but then the bathrooms and kitchen are all modern. We loved the garden house and sat with a cup of tea in there (despite the rain) every morning. Loved it.

Dockray sits in the a quiet corner of Matterdale Valley, off the beaten track. NT Aira Force and Gowbarrow Park with its tearoom are within an easy walk, whilst Ullswater shoreline is a 2km walk in the same direction. You can catch the ferry from Aira force pier and sail to Pooley Bridge, Howtown or Glenridding.
There are easy, low level walks throughout the valley. Gowbarrow, Great Mell Fell and Watermillock Common provide excellent views with moderate effort, whilst Great Dodd and Glencoyne lead on to longer days, linking you to the Helvellyn range. A short drive takes you to Blencathra and the Northern fells.
This is exciting cycling country too. Learn to sail on the lake, or go horse riding.
Further afield you can explore Borrowdale and the Western fells, or discover the castles of the Eden Valley.
There are three local cinemas, and the excellent Keswick Theatre.
By car: Knotts View is 20 minutes from Penrith and the M6.
Rail: The West Coast train line stops in Penrith. 20 minutes by taxi.
Bus: Tourist bus runs during the holiday season from Keswick to Glenridding.
Penrith to Glenridding bus route 1.25 miles walk away.
