Pros - Beautiful location, friendly host, nicely remodeled bathroom Cons - Hard to find (no house number provided, no signs), washed out driveway we were unable to drive up in a typical sedan, the host's dog was aggressive toward other guest dogs (biting, growling, full on fighting), paper thin walls, other guests being loud late into the night, stink bugs EVERYWHERE, very hot/sticky in the room with no fan available, patio area taken over by bees, generally cluttered and messy, the fridge barely kept food "cold" Perhaps we had too high of expectations for the room, and didn't quite realize just how rustic the farmhouse was. The general chaos of the solar eclipse event probably didn't help either. In general though, we didn't feel comfortable during our stay and the stink bugs pushed us over the edge. We ended up leaving at 2:00a because we couldn't sleep in the hot/sticky room with stink bugs flying around. Carol was a very friendly host and we appreciated that.

Carol’s place was great! This was our first Airbnb experience where we stayed in someone’s home while they were home as well. We were a little nervous, but Carol and Martin were available if you needed them, but otherwise let you keep to yourself as much as you wanted. We loved seeing all of the fall colors, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to get a chance to do some lake activities. Also- we had a flat tire on the morning that we checked out and don’t you know it - Martin practically changed the tire out for us. You couldn’t ask for better hosts!

We came to the farm in the country for an extended weekend stay and to get away from it all for a while (the hustle and bustle of city life). Carol was out of town the weekend we were there, but we still had communication with her personally and through other hosts that were present on the property in place of her. Anything we need or wanted, those needs were met promptly. Our stay there was very comfortable, relaxing, and everyone there made us feel right at home. Even though the location was secluded in the middle of Shawnee Forest, we felt very safe there. We were able to roam the farm, spend time with the horses, swim in the lake, and we had full access to the living room/family room and kitchen in the main house, in addition to the room we were staying in. Our place was very private and met all our needs. We were able to see a few of the historical sights in the area. This stay was located within a reasonable distance of those sights. They also have horseback riding available but we just ran out of time. It's definitely something we will do the next time we are there. Carol's hosts were very hospitable in her place. We really enjoyed talking with them and interacting with them. We definitely look forward to going back there for another stay.

Great Location! Carol's place is located right in the middle of so many South Eastern Illinois attractions. The resort owners and other guests were very friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to visit. We were able to visit many of the Shawnee National Forest attractions, spend an afternoon/evening in Paducah, Kentucky, and have daily breakfast and supper in nearby Golconda, IL., about 15 minutes from our location, in just a period of 3 days. If you enjoy a farm like experience and don't mind a little dirt on your shoes or tires, this resort will be a great experience for you.
