TL; DR: Nice location, good view, no soap, dirty silverware, extra charges, bare minimum / cheap ⁃The listing notes that “Essentials” are not included. I guess I have never booked an AirBnb that didn’t include the “essentials”, because I was unaware of what this really meant. Upon arriving at the house, after 6 hours of travel and two rest stops, what is the first thing that you want to do? Use the restroom and wash your hands. However, there was not a single bottle of soap in the entire house. I’d understand if there wasn’t shampoo in the bathrooms, but no hand soap? Come on. ⁃ I suppose towels are also part of the essentials, because it’s an extra charge ($150) just to get towels and sheets. P.S. - You have to make your own bed when you get there. ⁃ The hosts state that the towels/sheets come “sealed” to ensure that they are untouched and sanitary. The “sealed” towels were in garbage bags…some of which had rips in them. ⁃ The house comes with some basics “to get you started”. That means one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, a single packet of dishwasher soap, and a mini bottle of regular dish soap. ⁃ You can tell that the hosts did the bare minimum to get this house up and running and are using it as a profit puppy, spending as little as they can, while charging you for basic necessities along the way. This is evidenced in the extra charge for towels, to the lack of basic necessities, such as hand soap. ⁃ Another example is that one of the bedrooms had a queen size bed frame, but a full-size bed…meaning that there was about six inches of space at the end of the bed and the headboard was too high for the mattress. ⁃ The upstairs bathroom has rust on the shower curtain rods and the towel holders as well. ⁃ The towels and pillows are low quality. ⁃ The furniture is mismatched. One of the couches is caved in at the bottom - the springs are sprung. The large couch has a rip in it. The other small couch has paint on the back of it. The brown couch (the one with the bad springs) looks like it’s from 2004. My guess is that it’s the hosts old furniture that they didn’t want in their own house anymore, so they repurposed it for here. ⁃ The house has a great location, view, and you can see a lot of stars at night. The decks are a beautiful place to have dinners. Just note that, you can’t move any of the outdoor dining furniture, because it’s tied down to the eaves of the house. It’s little things like this that remind you that you are staying at a home run by a business, not a true host. ⁃ The listing states that there is Wi-Fi throughout the house. However, upon arriving, we were a little startled to find notices in the main areas and in each of the bedrooms, reminding us that we “are on an island that has the ABSOLUTE WORSE (sic) television and internet reception. We have the best router and booster we could get, but you will still have AWFUL internet. Sorry, nothing more we can do.” ⁃ The typos aside, this note is passive aggressive, and dismissive. While you are on an island, you are far from the middle of nowhere. It’s a large town with plenty of shops and hotels. The internet was acceptable at best. An upfront notice in the listing would have been appreciated. I don’t think it would have stopped us from booking, but it was concerning to have this message thrown at us upon arriving. ⁃ Three times throughout our stay, we lost power. Twice a breaker blew, and we had to reset it. The third time, we lost power in the entire house for about 5 minutes. Not big deals, but just adding to the frustration with this stay. I will say that when notified of the breaker flipping, the host (or someone who works for them) was responsive and said that they would send maintenance ASAP (which ended up not being necessary). Note that we only alerted the host of the first time the breaker flipped, as the 2nd/3rd times resolved themselves. ⁃ I asked the host if a late checkout was available and was promptly denied. I had only asked for a late checkout of 11am, with 8 people staying at the house, the extra hour would have been helpful. The owners were unable to accommodate it. ⁃ The checkout procedures include stripping the beds (that you made), doing all the dishes, moving all the furniture back to its original location, and other fairly normal items. These are common courtesy items when staying in an AirBnB. However, given the tone and experience of this house, it’s annoying. You are dealing with a company and are treated that way (minimal courtesies provided to you, extra charges, etc.), but still expected to provide the courtesies of a guest in someone’s home. Lastly, not doing each of these close out items results in an extra $50 cleaning fee…the charges continue.

Lance and Elaine’s property was perfect for our Chincoteague vacation. We were a family group of 3 couples plus one adult (7 total adults) and the space was great. The views from the decks were serene and peaceful, just what we were looking for...also the location was perfect for access to both Chincoteague and Assateague! The property is well furnished, with a great kitchen and many amenities. We definitely give this place our highest recommendation!!

Beautiful, spacious house with two enormous decks (and floor-to-ceiling windows on both floors) overlooking the channel. The house is on a quiet street and the overall vibe is peaceful and at one with nature. The Chincoteague wildlife refuge is so close that you can bike or even walk to it. Many restaurants and a bike rental shop within a mile's walk (or a 3 minute drive) from the house. Everything was comfortable and relaxing!

This felt like the BEST location and views in Chincoteague! We enjoyed our time out on the deck and the master bedroom is truly a special way to wake up surrounded by views of the water. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This house was wonderful, large and spacious and well kept. The views were great and you could see the lighthouse across the way. The crabs which we caught in the canal were great. The kitchen was well stocked with pot and pans, a washer and drier was available for use. All the amenities of home.
