Thornthwaite · 整套乡村小屋 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Lake District cottage with fabulous mountain views
Squirrel cottage is a cosy cottage full of charm and character ..perfect for two. Located in the small village of Thornthwaite at the foot of Whinlatter Forest Park it is 3 miles from the popular Lake District market town of Keswick. It has spectacular mountain views across open fields and provides a peaceful place in which to relax with walking and cycling from the door. The cottage has a log burner, underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen and a four poster bed. The cottage is a self-contained annex to my own family home. It sits back from the minor road that runs through the village and has its own private entrance. Downstairs is an open plan living space with a kitchen and dining area Upstairs is the bedroom and en-suite bathroom At the front of the cottage is a small east facing patio that catches the morning sun. Please note that up until the end of 2023 Squirrel was a dog friendly cottage. You may therefore notice mention of dogs in the reviews. From 2024 it will be a dog free cottage which may be relevant if you prefer to stay in a cottage that has not had dogs staying. I live next door and can guarantee that no dogs will be allowed to stay.
Wonderful place to stay! Great location, fantastic views and extremely comfortable bed that was hard to leave! Great communication from Jane who met us on arrival and a lovely gesture of a delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake. Good kitchen with all utensils and crockery etc you will need. Bathroom spotless with hot shower and a huge bath. A really comfortable stay after a full day exploring the lakes. Really hope to stay again in the future !
We had a lovely 3 day short break in this immaculate cosy annex, which has beautiful views towards Skiddaw. A great location to get into Keswick or to do some mountain biking in the surrounding countryside; there’s even a shed to store your bike. Jane has done a fantastic job restoring and updating this property and was a great host.
It was such an incredible and peaceful experience for me and my husband. It immediately felt so cozy and inviting and the entire stay was relaxing and wonderful. She was so kind to have fresh home-made baked goods for us and meet us when we arrived. It was clear she cares greatly for her properties and those who come to stay. We could not have asked for a more perfect holiday location. We will certainly remember our time there.
We had a fantastic week at Squirrel Cottage. Perfect base for exploring the area, very comfortable cottage and Jane was the perfect host.
Squirrel cottage is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, and we have stayed in ALOT! The location is perfect, just 5 mins from a stunning lake where you can swim, paddle and even watch low flying military jets flying between the mountains. The cottage is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the lakes and even has a log burner. The kitchen was the best equipped we have experienced. The bathroom is unbelievable with a huge bath that is impossible to get out of. The whole cottage was spotless and so very well looked after by Jane, who is the perfect host and has thought of everything. We cant recommended the cottage enough and would 100% not hesitate to book again.
The quiet semi-rural location here allows you to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life without being isolated.
Whinlatter Forest Park stretches across the hillside above the village offering panoramic views and miles of fantastic walks and mountain bike trails all of which can be started from the door. It is a lovely 40 min walk up to the Whinlatter visitor centre where there is a terraced cafe.
Thornthwaite itself has a Gallery with a tea room and Bassenthwaite lakeshore is a 20 min walk.
The nearest pubs serving food are in the neighbouring village of Braithwaite (1 mile) where there is also a village shop and a cafe.
Keswick (3 miles) and Derwentwater take about 5 min by car (just over 10 min by bus).
The cottage is 1 mile from the A66 giving you easy access to the rest of the Lake District.
A regular bus service runs through the village to Keswick (via Braithwaite) and to Cockermouth in the opposite direction. The bus stop is just over the road from the cottage.
The nearest mainline train station is in Penrith (20 miles) which has an hourly bus connection to and from Keswick.
自我介绍
I have been running our family owned holiday cottages in Thornthwaite near to Keswick in the Lake District since 2012. It is wonderful to be able to welcome both new and also our many returning guests to this beautiful and very special part of the Lake District. I spend as much of my free time as I can enjoying the amazing outdoors we have here and I especially love Fell walking. I volunteer regularly for the National Trust as part of the ‘Fix the Fells' team helping to repair and maintain upland footpaths across the Lake District mountains. p.s. I also love to bake and if you stay you’ll get to sample one of my freshly baked lemon drizzle cakes!
