Our stay at Joe's was exactly what we hoped it would be a more! We were anticipating a peaceful and secluded family getaway with our two girls (8 and 5), and that's exactly what we got. The house itself was amazing. As others have noted, it's essentially a chill museum you can live in. We loved poking around in there, and there was ample room to hang out, even on a rainy day. Cooking in the kitchen was wonderful, and using rainwater for washing the dishes was a cinch. I also enjoyed the rainwater shower way more than I thought I would. Everyday the girls would run down to the beach and hunt for beach glass for hours, or poke around in the meadow looking for butterflies and grasshoppers. We also enjoyed exploring the trails on the property. Joe was such a great and friendly host! Our kids loved chatting with him (and his cute dog Louis!), and he had lots of good suggestions for us. 100% recommend Joe's place and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

As always, Friendship island (and Joe) is the best! It’s amazing to come year after year and see how far he’s come with the property - always impressive. Can’t wait for next year!

Such a magical place. If I could spend forever there I would. A true time capsule & a must see for old house lovers. Spent our time relaxing, reading, cooking, canoeing and walking the island trails. (the trail that starts with oyster shells will bring you to the most magical fern field with trees dripping with moss) Joe was so great and friendly & gave us everything we needed & more! Already missing it & will never forget our time there! We’ll be back!!

Where to begin? Knowing about Joe’s place feels like being in on the best secret. Joe is a kind, helpful host and lovely to chat with. Lou the dog is a charmer. The land itself is incredibly special, Joe is stewarding it so thoughtfully. We stayed for 5 nights and didn’t want to leave, once on the town wharf, we were already scheming our next trip out. In terms of packing, like other guests have mentioned, he has all the cookware you need, ample dishes, etc, so you can leave those at home. We found it nice to have warm layers, rain gear, and extra towels for swimming (always at or near high tide, you’ll see ;)) By day 6, we’d seen porcupines, the local deer, countless birds I wish I could ID, monarch butterflies, and so much more. We kept our phones off except for once or twice a day to check the time (but by day 6, we were getting better at estimating time by the sun & tide level) & I’d recommend it if you’re able!

Heaven, Maine island style. Our third year back. The island time at Joe’s house is one of the highlights of our year. Slow down, disconnect, reconnect, and remember what’s important. The house is dreamy, the view is dreamy, and Joe is a fabulous host.
