Friendship ME was a beautiful, quiet location. It is a peaceful community with just a few amenities. The house sits at the end of the drive and there is a short walk to the boat ramp. Across from the house is an active small lobster business where the lobstermen come in early each morning so if the windows are open, you will hear the cars and pickup trucks. The views from the house and at the boat ramp are amazing. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets! The house itself was large enough to accommodate our family of 11 but it does need some TLC. It is an old house, which you can see in the pictures, and it is subject to the Maine coastal elements so we expected it to be rustic but there is quite a lot of needed maintenance. There was mold/mildew in bathrooms, dead bugs in window sills, cob webs in a few places, musty smell even with open windows, peeling paint, etc. The 2 front stair cases were steep and narrow, not recommended for older folks or those that have issues with stairs.

Ocean Gables was a fantastic location for our family's first-ever reunion! The house is large and sprawling with plenty of space to spread out and cozy central areas to gather. The sleeping arrangements seemed slightly different than the layout described in the listing, but the bed/couch counts were accurate and we were able to find room for everyone in our large group. It's definitely not the fanciest place, but that just made us feel comfortable being ourselves in the space. The short walk to the end of the lane is quiet and peaceful and the rocks and bay were perfect for the kids to explore at low tide. The neighbors were friendly and we got some great use out of the firepit! There were a couple of issues during our stay (neither of which were the host's fault) and Shawn was very responsive and took steps to correct the issues as quickly as possible, so although our stay was not without the occasional disruption, overall the week was good.

Excellent location. Very peaceful. Don't expect quiet since there is a lobster operation directly across the street and they are not the quietest group early in the morning. The boat launch at the end of the road is a great area to explore. Lots of lighthouses within a quick drive. We loved the area and wound visit again.

This truly is a magical place, especially where there’s 3 generations (16 people and 5 dogs) under 4 roofs (ha) enjoying every colorful day, watching one sunrise after sunset for 7 days! Though this delightful old place has its quirks, (intermittent hot and cold water showers and some needed window coverings upstairs) and is in need of love and attention, it supported our needs. There’s not many places that are able to shelter this much activity and people near any shoreline in mid-coast Maine for the cost. We didn’t want to leave and the children were sad to leave. If we all get another opportunity, I would pick this place again. We’ll have lasting memories for a long while...and having fresh lobster available across the road, everyday, is a bonus!!

A great find! So much space for a great price. On a quiet road. From the porch we were able to watch the boats and the beautiful sunsets.
