Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and extremely well equipped and a perfect location for visiting surrounding area. Really enjoyed our stay and would go back again.
We enjoyed our second stay at Fidelma's cottage. Everything was super clean and looked freshly painted. The cottage is well organized and cozy. We enjoy being able to takes walks at Pevensey Castle down the street and the two pubs on the street are easy for a bite to eat. The welcome groceries were much appreciated!
Fidelma’s Oriel cottage has lots of character and personal touches that felt instantly homey and cozy. Everything was very clean and neat. We also very much enjoyed the modern functionality this cottage’s kitchen and living spaces offered. The back garden was also a lovely space to relax and unwind. The location was a good base for exploring the general East Sussex including Eastbourne, Beachy head, and Brighton. However, it would be a little challenging if you don’t drive but there are close train and bus links. Fidelma was a great host and responded very quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Highly recommend!
Oriel Cottage is beautiful, immaculate and very tastfully decorated. It is without doubt the best equipped airbnb accommodation we have ever stayed in; Fidelma had thought of everything you could possibly need or want. The location is picturesque, almost next door to Pevensey Castle and the two village pubs, and also within reach of bus and train routes. We are very grateful to Fidelma to replying to our last-minute enquiry after finding that our booked airbnb accommodation did not exist, so we were completely stranded. She came out at 20 minutes' notice on a Sunday evening to give us the key to Oriel Cottage.
Pevensey Castle’s long history starts with the Romans, who built a shore fort here in the 4th century to ward off the Saxons. Centuries later, William the Conqueror built upon the old Roman walls, turning the ruined fort into a castle. Today the site is run by English Heritage and visitors can soak up its history hands-on with plenty of displays and information. The Court House Museum in the High Street dates back to the 13th century and was used as the town hall and gaol until 1886. Complete with original dock, cells and exercise yard, the museum is also packed with artefacts and information on the local history. Uncover Pevensey’s smuggling secrets, including a violent clash between smugglers and customs men in 1833.
A little further afield you will find the beautiful Michelham Priory, home to Englands longest medieval water-filled moat. And if you are visiting as a family, children will love a trip to Drusillas animal park, Knockhatch adventure park, or the Observatory Science Centre in Herstmonceux. Pevensey Bay is well known today to both swimming and sailing enthusiasts, with the local sailing club offering a variety of boats and a full programme of racing.
