My son and I enjoy kayaking, so for his birthday this year, I thought renting a houseboat on Caddo Lake would be fun. My first issue was that the AirBnB website listed check-in as 3pm and check-out as 10am. However, the owner advised it’s actually 4pm to 10am. This was disappointing, since we intended to spend our morning kayaking and it had to be cut short an hour. The biggest issue was the lack of privacy/noise level. I knew the marina would be close, but not that it was practically touching the houseboat. People were constantly launching their boats, and as they did, we had multiple people who drifted very slowly past the houseboat, staring inside at us. We had opened the doors to enjoy the view but were creeped out and closed them. After dark, there were two boats that raced each other back and forth in front of us, a guy blaring music about midnight next to us, and people yelling drunkenly about 2am. We were so tired by morning we overslept and missed some kayaking.

Loved our time at the houseboat! Perfect for me and my parents who were visiting from Chicago. Will definitely be back when warmer to make use of the kayaks!

Core memory making kind of experience for myself and my two kiddos. The bayou was so beautiful, and staying in the boathouse was exactly what we were looking for. April was friendly and kind. We felt right at home! Only wish we could have stayed longer.
