You will find cottages of all shapes and sizes huddled around the harbour and valley sides. Winding paths and ginnels (alleyways) lead you through the village with new discoveries around every corner. Situated in the North Yorkshire moors, 10 miles North of Whitby and 9 miles south of Saltburn by the sea, there are plenty of places to visit.
Such a picturesque village, it's an artists dream, film location and fossil hunters paradise.
Decend the steep hill into the old village, meet the cobbles and let the stresses of life fade away!
There is no visitor parking in the old village, drive down to unload your car and then return to the top of the hill where you will find the council car park near the visitor centre (do not park in the resident part as you will receive a ticket!) Also a privately monitored car park (pay and display)
There is also a pre bookable private car park, Glen Vale, just at the top of the hill.
On the high street in the old village there is a 40 minute parking area for several cars.
A regular bus service (x44) runs from Whitby to Middlesbrough and can be caught from the bus stops on the main road.
