This historical building was originally built and operated as a school in the early 1900's. The Freemasons took ownership of it in the 60's and in late 2022, we purchased it to give it a new lease on life. Lovingly restored from the ground up, we have taken what we believe are the original school rooms on the second floor and transformed them into luxury suites, catering to guests that want to enjoy where they rest and sleep as much as they are enjoying exploring the mid-coast of Maine. The property is a lovingly restored large brick building with a grand shared entrance. Guests will need to climb a large flight of stairs with their luggage to the suites as they are all on the second floor. On the second floor there are 3 generous suites, all available to rent as vacation rentals. They are all uniquely decorated and completely renovated. As well as the entrance hall, there are 2 communal large hallway spaces where you may see other guests and a laundry room with a washer, dryer and ironing facilities that all guests are welcome to use. The property is sadly not suited to children or individuals with mobility issues.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Spofford Lodge in the Abacus Suite for two nights. The beauty of this remodeled school house is beyond amazing and our suite was impeccably designed and every attention to detail possible was well thought out and executed. Our suite was extremely clean (I am fussy when it comes to cleanliness) and living area comfortable and well presented. The bed/ bedroom was comfortable and cozy, linens of top quality, and warmed towels awaited on the warming rack after each shower or bath. Speaking of bath, a beautiful deep relaxing tub to finish off our day was perfect! The decor is brilliantly done and creates the feeling of luxury. Restaurants are a short walk away in downtown Bucksport. A perfect location if you are looking for a peaceful stay in mid coast Maine. Communication with Lisa and Alex was easy and prompt. We highly recommend a stay with Lisa and Alex. You will not be disappointed! They are definitely 5 star hosts.
We decided to take a last minute trip up to Maine. Lisa and Alex were super responsive to our request and were incredibly accommodating of our last minute stay. The property was so cool and they clearly spent the time to perform a loving renovation of the property that is true to the character and architectural beauty of the original schoolhouse. We loved the luxury amenities and nice touches like the towel warmer and comfy linens. This was our first time to Bucksport, we also had a great breakfast at the local diner and we loved the small town feel! We can’t wait to return, explore more and stay at the Spofford Lodge in the near future!
My wife and I had the opportunity for a kid free night and decided to stay in Lisa & Alex’s place based on the area we were looking to explore. They did a great job converting an old schoolhouse into a beautiful welcoming place to stay. The location was great, easy to find and the provided amenities were as described. Needless to say it was a relaxing night away.

Bucksport, Maine is a very peaceful town right on the Penobscot river. Our property is one block away from the waterfront with its walkway, perfect for ambling along and enjoying unparalleled views of The Penosbcot Narrows Bridge and Fort Knox.
Lobster boat tours can take you out on the water, you can stand in line for the local famous ice cream take out window, grab a glass of wine in a secret little courtyard bar, buy coffee and books at the local bookstore or take in a movie, all just steps away from the property.
Bucksport is also an incredible central location for exploring Mid-coast Maine with Belfast, Bangor and Ellsworth all around 25 minutes drive, and with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park just 35 minutes away. An easy commute to a bustling area with respite at the end of your day of exploring the rugged coast and picture perfect towns.
